Dear Clermont Community,

Thank you so much for making our Veterans Day such a spectacular display of honor, wonder, and pride for our Eagles! A special note of gratitude goes out to Mr. Reese and Mrs. Massengill for organizing such a fantastic day of meaningful experiences for our school. To even have one service vehicle, or one experienced Veteran speaking to our children, or the Fife and Drum Core play would have been special, but to have all of these opportunities -plus more- for our students at the same time was truly phenomenal. It was amazing to watch our students connect with the service men and women who serve or have served our country. One of our third grade students said, “I loved Veteran’s Day because I learned how we are all protected and I feel safe,” and we couldn’t have said it better ourselves!

Click here to view a video recap of the day's events.

Enjoy your weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Salata and Ms. Peace

Tip Sheet for Parents: Control

Kids are great at pushing parents' buttons but reacting with anger doesn't help.

Your goal in disciplining your child is to have him or her replace bad behavior with the behavior you want to see. You want him or her to start their homework, or pick up their room or stop kicking the ball inside.

But when you lose control of your emotions during discipline, you make it easier for him or her to ignore you. The words you use, and your tone of voice make all the difference. When you can keep your own behavior calm and under control, you are dealing with your child from a position of strength.

So, when your child's behavior is frustrating, follow these steps:

  • Take a deep breath and address the behavior you want him or her to change. Explain to your child what you want him or her to do instead.
  • Remind your child of the consequences of not changing their behavior.
  • Offer your child a choice: He or she can make the change—or accept the consequences.

By following these steps, you'll stay in charge. And you'll stay in control.
