Great Falls Tree Lighting Ceremony

For: 5th and 6th Grade Band Students and their families

Forestville Elementary has been invited to perform carols as part of the Great Falls Tree Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, December 1st. This is an optional performance for any band student willing and able to participate.

  • Members of the band are invited to perform at 5:15
  • Students who would like to play carols in front of the tree should be accompanied by an adult at this event. This is not a drop of event. Students should arrive by 4:45 PM to warm up, watch the lighting of the tree (without playing), and then group up in front of the tree to play. (This event is open at 3:45 if families may want to enjoy the other music and attractions. More information can be found here)
  • Location - Great Falls Village behind the post office. Meet Ms. Hirt near the tree at the far end of the soccer field from the post office.  We will meet on the side of the tree closest to the village shops.  After the students perform their carols they can be met by parents on the opposite side of the tree away from the shops.
  • In order to save the instruments from damage, the Forestville Band will not perform our carols if it is actively raining when we are scheduled to perform.  There will not be a cancellation announcement made in advance; therefore, parents are asked to exercise their judgement when determining whether or not to risk the outing.
  • Students are encouraged to wear warm and durable clothing as the area around the tree can be wet and muddy after periods of rain.
  • Students should bring their instrument, the “Holiday Carols” sheetmusic (provided by Ms. Hirt), and a folding music stand (If you need one, please check with Ms. Hirt prior to Thanksgiving)

Please email Ms. Hirt at ekhirt@fcps.edu with any further questions or concerns.
