The Mustang Weekly - November 11th, 2019

THE MUSTANG WEEKLY

NOVEMBER 11TH, 2019

A note from Principal Kownacki:

Dear Mustang Community:

The month of November provides us with many opportunities to express gratitude and reflect on things we are thankful for having as part of our lives. Today, November 11th, we celebrated Veterans Day at South County Middle School. It was a powerful opportunity to recognize the sacrifices made by several faculty and staff members who served in military prior to joining SCMS. Each staff member was recognized during the morning announcements and a short video tribute in their honor was played during learning seminar. The Peer Helping class also wrote personalized post cards to all veterans within the building. Additionally, a showcase near the student services office was decorated to honor our veterans, and multiple banners were placed throughout the school. Finally, students had the opportunity to write personalized messages to all veterans during their lunches. This banner will remain displayed near the cafeteria. I join with all students, faculty and staff in expressing gratitude to those that served, or are currently serving, in the military.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions. I look forward to seeing you at SCMS soon.

Sincerely,

Peter Kownacki

STUDENT-PARENT SURVEY FOR FEDERAL IMPACT AID:

THANK YOU to al the families who have turned in their Federal Impact Aid Forms. We are still in need of some forms. FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County Public Schools and centers.

On October 24th these forms were handed out to students in their 3rd period Learning Seminar classes. For each school aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date and return the survey to SCMS. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated and returned by October 30th. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.
