Happy Friday Wolverines!

Our capacity enhancement process is moving along.  Please find the minutes from the last design and construction meeting under announcements on our webpage. Updated renderings and plans will be shared with the community by FCPS design and construction at our December PTSA Meeting (Dec. 2nd) so mark your calendars.  We are very pleased with the progress and the proposed renderings and plans.  Current projections for completion are 2022-2023 SY.

As you know, the first quarter ended last week and report cards will be available on SIS beginning tomorrow, Saturday, November 9 at 6am and will be distributed to students on Wednesday November 13 during Advisory. The November PTSA meeting (Nov. 11th at 6:30 pm in the Library) will have presenters giving overviews of the interventions and supports available to all students. So please join us on Monday.

Also, on Monday the 11th, we celebrate our Veterans with our 4th Annual Travis Manion Veteran’s Day of Service.  Our school community will be partnering with the Travis Manion Foundation for another year of celebration and service projects.  Our students will work side-by-side with our veterans to complete projects around the school.  The activities will begin at 9:30am with the Opening Ceremony and go until the end of the day.  If you are available, please come out and enjoy the day with us.

For detailed information regarding this event, please refer to the attached flyer:

Technology Support Fee:

As previously communicated this summer, as part of FCPSOn, an annual technology support fee of $50 has been charged to all high school students. This fee will help ensure students have access to the technology they need by defraying the cost to repair and replace equipment, ensuring all students have the necessary laptops for testing, and providing back-up laptops as a substitute as needed. All students will need access to the same software, which might not be compatible with self-provided laptops. The technology support fee is included in the FY 2020 Approved Budget.

The technology support fee was billed centrally using FCPS’ e-commerce platform, My School Bucks (MSB), which retrieves information from the Student Information System (SIS). Students who have Free and Reduced meal status and have given consent to share their FRM status for a waiver or reduction of the technology support fee were charged $25 for Reduced status; the fee was waived for Free status.

The technology support fee was billed on Monday, November 4th, after the end of first quarter for all eligible students who were enrolled at that time.

Parents/guardians and students who do not have an MSB account received a bill from MSB to the primary email address recorded in SIS.  They are encouraged to enroll in My School Bucks but payment by check, cash or money order may be paid at the school.

All Night Grad (ANG)

Hello, Parents of the Class of 2020!

Planning has begun for the 2020 WPHS All-Night Graduation Celebration!  The party will be held on the night of graduation: Thursday, June 4th, from 9:30 pm to 4:00 am Friday, June 5th. ANGC provides a safe, fun-filled way for our seniors to celebrate their graduation.

We need your help to make the 2020 celebration a success! Please plan to attend this meeting to learn how you can be part of this longstanding tradition and give our graduates a night to remember! There are many ways you might volunteer to help plan and organize or help during the actual event.

This first meeting will be November 12 at 7 pm in the College and Career Center located next to the cafeteria. If you have any questions before the meeting please feel free to contact Rebecca Losee at angcwestpo2020@gmail.com

Thank you in advance for your participation!

Federal Impact Aid- Reminder

Federal Impact Aid forms were sent home through Advisory on October 21.  Please complete these forms and return them to school.  Even if you do not think you qualify, we are required to collect forms from all families.  As we face budget issues each year, the information gathered from this survey can be critical to providing funding to the county, FCPS anticipates receiving approximately $3,000,000 from the Impact Aid Grant this year.

Again, accurate and timely completion of the form is essential because FCPS requires 100% completion for all schools.  Each student enrolled at West Potomac High School must turn in a completed form.  Please know that personal information will be kept confidential.

Please help WPHS get 100% of the forms back as soon as possible.

Mamma Mia! Beyond the Page Theatre Company at West Potomac High School kicks off its 35th Season:

From Across the Pond with the international smash hit Mamma Mia!, dazzling audiences on stage from November 2 – 9. Over sixty million people from around the globe have fallen in love with the characters, the enchanting story and ABBA’s timeless music which makes Mamma Mia! the ultimate feel-good show! This sunny, funny, international sensation unfolds on a Greek island paradise when on the eve of her wedding, a young woman’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother's past back to the island they last visited twenty years ago. Non-stop laughs and explosive dance numbers, along with the magic of ABBA's hit songs that include “Super Trouper,” “Dancing Queen,” “Knowing Me, Knowing You,” “Take a Chance on Me,” “Thank You for the Music,” “Money, Money, Money,” “The Winner Takes It All,” and “SOS,” combine to make this enchanting show a trip down the aisle you'll never forget! Performances will be held in the West Potomac High School’s Kogelman Theatre on Nov 2 (2pm & 7pm) Nov 3 (2pm*) Nov 7 (7pm*) Nov 8 (7pm) Nov 9 (2pm & 7pm). As if Mamma Mia! weren’t already giddy and shameless, here comes more musical silliness: November 3 and 7 are singalong performances with a Mamma Mia Mock-tail Party directly following the November 3 performance.  That’s correct, audience members will be able to sing along with the cast to ABBA’s hits during these special performances. It’s become clear just how much these songs mean to people. Our singalong nights will be a celebration of that; a chance for our energetic, passionate audiences to be a step closer to our talented cast

RATING: MAMMA MIA! is rated PG. For tickets and additional information, visit westpotomactheatre.org
