Message from the Principal

Langley HS

Greetings Saxons,

Tonight is going to be big!!!! Come on out to the final varsity football game as our Saxons travel to McLean to battle the Highlanders. The level of excitement is sure to be high and the turnout large.

On a more serious note, the morning in Saxon Country began with an announcement to the students from me. Last evening, McLean was vandalized. I shared my disappointment and frustration with our students regarding this egregious act. While I definitely want our kids to demonstrate school spirit, I think we agree there is a line between spirit and inappropriate behavior. That line was crossed last night. Please speak with your students regarding the need and expectation for them to represent Langley in a positive manner. As principal of Langley, I believe my job extends beyond making sure kids are academically successful. I feel my greater charge is to help our children grow into kind, caring human beings who make  positive contributions to not only the school but also the community. Thank your for partnering with me in this endeavor.

On a lighter note, our volleyball team had a phenomenal season. The team made it to region semi-finals.  Their season ended last evening but we are so proud of the team and Coach Shifflett.

While the season may be over, we have reason to celebrate our volleyball team. Coach Shifflett was named this year’s Coach of the Year for both the Liberty District and the Northern Region. These are accolades which are truly deserved. We are so fortunate to have Coach Shifflett as part of our Saxon community. She is a true role model for our students. Her passion, joy and love of students and sports are boundless. Congratulations, Coach!

Saxon Field Hockey is still alive in the post season. The team and Coach Robinson won the Northern Region title on Wednesday. They won the Liberty District title last week. They will play in the state quarterfinals against the Fairfax Rebels here at Langley on Tuesday. We wish them luck!!
