A Message from Dr. Smith

I wanted to take a moment to thank all the Veterans who have selflessly and courageously served our country, especially the Veterans in our Lake Braddock school and community. On Monday, November 11th, Veterans Day, the school has several activities/events planned to honor our Veterans including:

  • Veterans Wall of Honor created by the HS Military Ambassadors Club. (Please read below article to help create this wall!)
  • JROTC will host SFC Jacob Dixon, Special Forces Operations Sergeant, to present in the Lecture Hall on Monday morning, 7:30 a.m. - 7:50 a.m. ALL are invited.
  • Veterans Teacher and Faculty Luncheon hosted by HS SGA.
  • The student-run Morning Bru and Bruin Cave broadcast news shows will feature a Veterans Day special to honor the Veterans

We are extremely grateful for the service of and will always remember these brave men and women.

Veterans Wall of Honor
The Military Ambassadors Club will be creating a Wall of Honor in the school's front hallway to celebrate our veterans this Veterans Day. They need your help filling the walls with our veterans! Click on the below link to submit a photo and information about your veteran. Within the Google document, please insert a picture of your veteran and answer the questions to go along with the photo: their name, relation to you, branch of service, and years served. We will print these out and hang them up on the Wall of Honor.

Thank you so much for your participation and help.

Bruins in Action
The 2019-2020 8th Grade Bruins In Action (BIA) Capstone kicked off with two philanthropic events focused on helping our most vulnerable neighbors in Northern Virginia. The first event, Socktober, that ran for the last two weeks in October, involved our middle school students spear-heading a donation of 500-plus pairs of socks through their math classes. Lake Braddock high school students and elementary school students from Lake Braddock’s Pyramid also participated in Socktober, truly making this a Lake Braddock community service event!

The middle school PE department sponsored the second Capstone kick-off event that ended last week with The Goblin Gallop. Students collected a wide range of toiletries that will be distributed later by the Northern Virginia nonprofit organization, ECHO Inc. and ended the event with a fun walk/run.

The year-long, multi-disciplinary BIA Capstone focuses on key curriculum standards and Portrait of Graduate skills in students’ classes, while also providing students with authentic opportunities to help the Northern Virginia community where they live.

If you also are interested in providing support to the groups that our students have helped, or you want to learn more about the important work that they do, please click the links below.

Bridges to Independence (https://bridges2.org/) leads individuals and families out of homelessness and into stable, independent futures.  This nonprofit organization is in Arlington, VA.

The Katherine K. Hanley Family Shelter (https://www.shelterlistings.org/details/22147/) provides shelter for up to 20 families at a time. Most of the families are mothers with school-age children.  This nonprofit organization is in Fairfax, VA.

ECHO, Inc (https://www.echo-inc.org) provides food and financial help to people with short-term emergencies and provides clothes and household items to people with low incomes. This nonprofit organization is in Springfield, VA
