Message from the Principal

Dear Wolftrap Families,

I would like to highlight several upcoming event here at Wolftrap.

VETERANS DAY ASSEMBLY: Approximately thirty of our sixth grade students have been hard at work preparing for our Veterans Day assembly on Monday, November 11, 2019 at 2:00 PM. If you are a veteran, please mark your calendar and attend this special event so that Wolftrap may honor you! Students in grades K through 6 will be in attendance and the entire assembly will be run by sixth grade volunteers.

OPEN HOUSE AND BOOK FAIR: Please mark your calendars for the week of November 20-22 for the annual Wolftrap Book Fair. The PTA earns 25% of all sales so this is a huge fundraiser and great opportunity for holiday gifts! The overall Book Fair hours are as follows:

Wednesday: 2-8 pm

Thursday: 9 am-6 pm

Friday: 9 am-1 pm

The annual Open House will take place on Thursday, November 21 for Grades 3, 4, and 5, and Friday, November 22 for Grades K, 1, 2, and 6. Each class has been allotted a thirty-minute Open House in the classroom followed immediately by a twenty-minute time slot to attend the Book Fair. Please see this link for the detailed schedule. We hope to see you there!

IMPACT AID: Please return Impact Aid forms to the office as soon as possible. It is important that we receive a completed form for each student. If you need a new form, please call the office.

WOLFTRAP GIVES BACK

The holidays are an excellent time to reflect and be thankful for what we have. For the past several years, Wolftrap has coordinated a Thanksgiving food drive for families in the Vienna area. Additionally, we coordinate a separate collection before winter break as a part of the service projects completed by each grade. These items are delivered to a sister school within FCPS. I wanted to provide you with the desired items for your children’s grades for both collections in case it is easier to purchase everything at the same time. We certainly understand that not all families may choose to participate, but we are extremely grateful for your support if you are able to contribute!

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE: We will be filling grocery bags with one of each item and our goal is to fill 120 bags! Donations can be brought into school through November 22nd and placed in a box in each classroom. We will also accept leftover Halloween candy to make up goodie bags to add to each bag of donations. If you are interested in also contributing a $10 gift card to Giant or Target, those can be submitted to the main office. Each grade level has an item to collect:

  • Kindergarten - packets of gravy mix and cans of chicken or vegetable broth
  • First Grade - boxed Bisquick
  • Second Grade - boxed mac and cheese
  • Third Grade - instant mashed potatoes
  • Fourth Grade – boxed stuffing
  • Fifth Grade - canned green beans
  • Sixth Grade - large plastic containers of applesauce

WINTER HOLIDAY COLLECTION: Classroom teachers will provide specific due dates and more detailed information in December.

  • Kindergarten - books for students in grades K-2
  • First Grade – children’s socks
  • Second Grade - children’s hats and gloves
  • Third Grade - books for students in grades 3-6
  • Fourth Grade – non-perishable canned and boxed food for the winter break
  • Fifth Grade - shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes and deodorant
  • Sixth Grade - single serving goldfish, pretzels, applesauce, granola bars, teddy grahams, etc.

Thank you in advance for your contributions!

Sincerely,

Teresa Khuluki
Principal

Safety Routes Updates

Safe Routes Grant Used for Safety Improvements

Edie

The $1000 Safe Routes grant that Wolftrap was awarded has been put to good use. The funds are to be used to improve the safety of students and to encourage more students to walk and bike to school. We purchased a new sign for the entrance to kiss-n-ride, traffic cones, safety vests, umbrellas for safety patrols, and other items to help keep our kids safe. Miss Edie was also provided an LED stop sign to help improve safety at our crosswalk.

Family Science Night

The Children’s Science Center is bringing their Family Science Night Program back to Wolftrap Elementary, Tuesday December 10, 2019 in the Gym from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Family Science Night offers a variety of engaging, many hands-on science activities. Check out the PTA website for last years fun activities.

Young children are natural scientists, rationally making observations, testing hypotheses, analyzing data and reaching conclusions. Unfortunately, many of students lose interest in science as they grow up. Join us to help keep our students engaged and excited about STEM subjects.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS TO ENSURE THE EVENT CAN HAPPEN! If you enjoy science, this the event for you. The Children Science Museum requires a minimum of eighteen adult volunteers from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. to set up, assist students with activities, and clean up. Sign up to be a dedicated event volunteer by Tuesday November 22 using our signup genius. Thanks for your support!

Save the Date - 15th Annual 5K

5k

SAVE THE DATE! The 15th Annual Wolftrap Elementary 5K & Fun Run will be on Sunday, April 19th! Last year's race had over 750 registered runners and raised over $53,000 for the school -- this is an event you won't want to miss!

Interested in joining the 5K Crew? The 5K is not possible without a lot of help! Please join us at Zenola on November 10th from 6pm-7pm to learn more! We have lots of different volunteer roles available to accommodate people's different schedules. At the very least, come check out an exciting new local Mediterranean restaurant located close to Wolftrap -- right next to Norm's!

Do you have season tickets, special access, or other items that you are willing to donate to our Silent Auction?
