Early Checkout Policy
Students who must check out early should provide a note to the front office upon their arrival at school so that a pass may be issued by the attendance assistant. The note should state the student’s full name, reason for dismissal, time of dismissal, and a phone number where the parent/guardian can be reached during the day.
This pass allows the student to come to the main office at the appointed time. Your student will then be permitted to wait for you in the lobby with their belongings thus avoiding delays resulting from having to locate the student. In order to minimize classroom disruptions, it is necessary for parents to plan ahead.
Any student leaving early must be signed out in the early dismissal log in the main office. Please be prepared to show photo identification (every time) to Twain’s office staff. No student is allowed to leave school grounds without properly checking out. This includes during lunch and period transitions. Students may only leave with those persons designated by the registering parent signature on the emergency care card. No one under the age of 18 may transport a child from the school.
If parents do not send a note, students will be called from their class when the parent arrives in the main office.
Digital Citizenship: Week 4
FCPS is celebrating Digital Citizenship in October! At Twain we will be highlighting 5 different themes surrounding Media Balance and Well-Being: Developing a Healthy Relationship with Your Technology. Our school is celebrating Digital Citizenship with activities focused on developing healthy habits around technology use. Students will have a choice board to select at least one activity a week that matches the weekly theme. Parents can also choose to sign up to receive text messages from Common Sense Media with Tips for Health Tech Balance (for children ages 3-8).
Every Twain Student will receive a Student Choice Board filled with activities. We suggest that students complete at least 1 of these activities each week. (This document must be accessed with an FCPS Google account, it is also posted on our Twain Digital Citizenship Google Classroom.)
Below you’ll find resources and suggested activities to help support healthy habits at home too.
Week 4: Students and families are encouraged to think critically about the media they consume and actively evaluate and select high quality, age-appropriate media. Try some of these ideas:
- Help your child become a critical consumer of media by discussing these 5 questions with them when you consume media together such as books, movies, and news articles.
- Consider Common Sense Media’s reviews of movies, apps, TV shows, video games, websites, and music for information that can help you decide if the media your child is consuming is appropriate for them.
- Check out this tip sheet with your child and emphasize the importance of choosing quality resources.
- Try these additional tips on how to establish expectations at home around media use.
