Mrs. Choate's Chat...

Dear Glen Forest Community,

The last two weeks have been extremely busy! I shared in my last newsletter that we were preparing for a visit from Channel 5 Fox News. During their visit, some students and staff members were interviewed, and we held a mini pep rally that was highlighted on the morning news. Our students did an amazing job cheering on the Nationals by singing the “Baby Shark” song. Of course, it helped as the Nats won the World Series the other night! If you missed the news footage, you can see the interviews and our mini pep rally on our Glen Forest website.

This week we held our annual Book Fair and children had the opportunity to buy some wonderful books at very reasonable prices! We love the fact that our students love to read! Hopefully, you had an opportunity to stop by and purchase some books for upcoming special occasions with your family.

For some, yesterday was Halloween, but at Glen Forest, it was our Book Character Day, and everyone enjoyed dressing up to highlight their favorite book. I know the students enjoyed the festivities and especially the parade, and our staff outdid themselves with being creative in their team outfits! Check out our Twitter feed to see photos from our day.

Today ends our 1st quarter of school and students will be off on Monday, November 4th and Tuesday, November 5th. Teachers will be holding parent conferences and learning about our new initiative, POG POL! POG POL means “Portrait of a Graduate Presentations of Learning” and highlights the five essential attributes for student development and growth during their educational experience in Fairfax County Public Schools. These attributes are:

  • Communicator
  • Collaborator
  • Creative & Critical Thinker
  • Ethical & Global Citizen
  • Goal-directed & Resilient Individual.

For this year, our staff is focusing on various skills within the Communicator and Collaborator attributes. We are very excited to be selected as a pilot school for the county!

This year we have made a change and moved our annual Family Thanksgiving Luncheon to Veterans’ Day, so that more of our families can join us as we celebrate and are thankful for being part of this wonderful school community. Please consider parking further from the school as we anticipate a large crowd! Check your children’s backpacks next Wednesday for detailed information.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs. Choate
