From the Principal's Desk

Dear Families,

What a busy week we have had! The hallways have been abuzz with talk of book character costumes for tomorrow and of the Washington Nationals’ performance in the World Series. Teachers got a treat today as admin shared ballpark snacks with the hope of a big win tonight! Here’s hoping for good weather for those of you Trick or Treating tomorrow.

A word about safety – recently teachers have reported instances of unfamiliar community members on the playground or back field during the school day. Last year, we locked the gate by the basketball court and the gate in the center of the back field but kept the other gate behind the back field open for families’ convenience. However, student safety is our biggest priority. We have requested signage from FCPS to notify community members to stay off school property during school hours. While we await these signs, we are locking all three of these gates daily during school hours. We apologize for the inconvenience this causes. Please contact me if you have any questions or suggestions.

Also, the nomination window for FCPS Excellence Awards is now open! Please take a moment to recognize the excellence of a staff member by sending a nomination to our Awards Liaison, Sue Woodfield at email

Warm regards,

Diane Leipzig (Dr. L)

Federal Impact Aid Surveys Deadline to Return Survey Is October 30

FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an anticipated $3 million dollars in grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers. For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3.  All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 30. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.

Veterans Day Celebration & Thanksgiving Luncheon

We will continue our tradition of honoring our active duty and retired military men and women on Veteran's Day!

On Monday November 11th we will celebrate our school-wide Thanksgiving lunch where you are welcome to join your child(ren) during his/her lunch time.  As part of our tradition, we also take this opportunity to celebrate family members who are Veterans or are currently serving in the Armed Forces.

Veterans and active service members are invited to come in and share stories and experiences with our students. If you would like to participate or have any questions please contact Deirdre Ladd at email or (703) 764-5600.

We will have an altered lunch schedule on this day.
