THE MUSTANG WEEKLY

OCTOBER 28TH, 2019

A note from Principal Kownacki:

Dear Mustang Community:

This past week we celebrated Unity Week. It was great seeing the students and staff participating in the spirit days (bowties, crazy socks, orange out, jersey and superheroes). Students also participated in powerful anti-bullying assemblies where they examined the potential impact of their actions and committed to an anti-bullying pledge. Kudos to the student services department, along with many of our student groups (SGA, Peer Helpers, Stampede) in coordinating a meaningful week of activities.

It’s hard to believe that this is the final week of the first quarter. Time has flown by! I hope that students are able to enjoy a restful 4-day weekend and re-charge their batteries for the second quarter of the school year. Before we make it to the long weekend, there are many upcoming events this week. Thursday is Halloween and students are permitted to wear costumes, if they choose. Please be mindful that costumes must be school appropriate and follow the guidelines set forth in the SRR (no face or head coverings). Also, on Thursday is the South County High School Homecoming parade. I hope to see you along the parade route.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions. I look forward to seeing you at SCMS soon.

Sincerely,

Peter Kownacki

STUDENT-PARENT SURVEY FOR FEDERAL IMPACT AID:

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County Public Schools and centers.

On October 24th these forms were handed out to students in their 3rd period Learning Seminar classes. For each school aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date and return the survey to SCMS. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated and returned by October 30th. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.
