Superintendent's Excellence in Equity Award
We are proud to announce that Sangster has received the Superintendent’s Excellence in Equity Award. This award is given to schools to celebrate their progress and achievement in raising the bar and closing student achievement gaps. Based on a careful analysis of Division SOL data, Sangster has earned a Level 1 performance for each reporting group and all gap group indicators in both English and Mathematics for the 2018-2019 school year. Congratulations to Sangster on our outstanding performance.
Federal Impact Aid
Federal Impact Aid forms were sent out last Thursday, October 24th. All forms must be signed, dated, and should have been returned by October 30th.
For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's homeroom teacher. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.
Please return a form for each student if you have not already done so.

Veterans Day Assembly
Join us for our 8th Annual Veterans Day Assembly
Sangster has a long tradition of celebrating Veteran’s Day with the community. Please mark your calendar for Monday, November 11th, at 9:30 a.m. Anyone is welcome, weather permitting. Please arrive after the buses have exited the bus loop at 9:15 a.m.
Grades 4-6 will participate in the celebration outside in our bus loop by the flag pole.
Grades K-3 will watch the celebration streamed live into their classrooms.
Students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue.
The purpose of the celebration is to help raise awareness of our cherished values as a nation and help instill a strong sense of citizenship and patriotism in our students. Every year Sangster holds this celebration as a reminder for our community of our country’s values, patriotism, tolerance and ability to have the freedoms we do today.
Teachers are also inviting Veterans and active military personnel to visit classrooms throughout the day. Please contact your child’s teacher if you are interested in visiting.

Parent Night on Anxiety Awareness
Anxiety disorders affect one in eight children. Left untreated, children with anxiety are at a higher risk to perform poorly in school, miss out on important social activities, and engage in substance abuse according to the ADAA. Learn how to help children manage their anxiety by coming to the Parent Night on Anxiety Awareness on November 13, 2019 at the West Springfield High School Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30pm with a free screening of the documentary ANGST at 7pm. An expert panel discussion follows the screening and information on school and community resources will also be available. The event is sponsored by local school counselors, school administrators, the FCPS Region 4 office and PTAs/PTSAs.
Positivity Project - Week of November 4th
This week’s character strength is Bravery. You show this strength when you act with mental, moral, or physical strength even when you know things are difficult or scary. Bravery refers to voluntary (not coerced) action in the face of a dangerous circumstance. This strength involves judgment; the brave person must have an understanding of the risks and consequences involved in acting. According to Socrates and Plato, forethought separates acts of valor from acts of rashness. This means that bravery isn’t simply fearlessness, but instead the overcoming of fear.
This Coming Week’s Character Strength: Bravery
Next Week’s Positivity Project Focus: The Other People Matter Mindset-Knowing my words and actions affect others
