Spirit Week (October 28-November 1)
Let's celebrate all we've accomplished 1st quarter! Bust out your positive message t-shirts, some crazy socks and more!
Kids helping kids: Consider bringing in extra Halloween candy to help the Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation! Drop off sorted candy (there will be a box for chocolate and a box for non-chocolate) in the lobby from Friday, November 1st through Friday, November 8th. This foundation distributes candy to area hospitals for children to enjoy while receiving treatment.
Veteran's Day
We are looking forward to holding our Veteran’s Day Assembly on Monday, November 11th. Since part of our celebration includes music, we love to highlight members of our OHES community who are musicians in the military bands. If you are a member of a military band and would like to participate in our assemblies the morning of November 11th, please contact our band director, Eileen Fraedrich (ewfraedrich@fcps.edu).
During the assembly, we also involve the students who have a parent who is currently deployed. Prior to the assembly, please make sure to reach out to Sarah Leiserson (sleiserohn@fcps.edu) with the name of the parent who is deployed, along with a photo, so that the parent and child can be included in the celebration. We cannot thank you enough for your support or service!
Due to the fact that we have so many participants, we have planned for three separate assemblies on the morning of Monday, November 11th. All three assemblies are exactly the same, so come to any of them.

9:45-10:15 Grades K, 5, and Eckenrode and Kvandal in the gym

STUDENT-PARENT SURVEY FOR FEDERAL IMPACT AID
Beginning on October 21, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.
Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 30. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.
