Helping Children Remember What They’ve Read

As children develop as readers, they will confront books with more sophisticated characters/plots, and texts containing a great deal of information. As a result, one challenge for your child might be remembering what he or she has read.  In order to recall information, children must learn to stop frequently when reading and check in with themselves for understanding.  One strategy called “Read Cover Remember Retell” can be used on both fiction and nonfiction texts to foster comprehension.  To learn about this strategy Click Here.

Chipotle Fundraising Total

Thank you for the wonderful turnout yesterday at Chipotle.  They were so generous to give Oak Hill 33% of their profits.  We were able to add over $759 for our Technology Fund.  We truly appreciate your support of our technology fundraiser.

Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.  The preprinted form was sent home in the October 23rd Wednesday folder.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to Oak Hill. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3.  The due date for forms is today, October 30th.  If you have not returned your signed and dated form, please send it with your child tomorrow. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.  For more information about Impact Aid, please click here to watch a short video.
