News from Fairhill

Administrator Avenue

Dear Families,

As your interim principal, I want to thank you for a warm and friendly welcome. I love seeing your children arrive each morning as they enter the building with smiles and a positive energy to learn.  Visiting classrooms is the best part of my day as I get to see teachers and students engaged in reading, writing, math, and more.  Mrs. Hunstad is continuing to make progress and will return soon.  Dr. Zuluaga, Region 2 Assistant Superintendent, has asked me to stay, and I plan to remain at Fairhill until Mrs. Hunstad is ready to come back to work.

It is hard to believe that we are already at the end of the first quarter. As we wrap up the first part of the school year, we hope that you will make the most of your parent teacher conferences to share what we can do to support your child at school and make the most of their school year. It is our hope that with our continued partnership, your child will be able to grow and reach their full potential.

We appreciate all that you do to support your child’s learning, and we look forward to working together to ensure that each and every one of our students continues to be successful.

Sincerely,

Tim Stanley and Courtney Korb

Candy Collection 2019

jb

Last October, our oldest Tigers promoted the idea of philanthropy – sharing your time, talent, or treasure with others.  Students were invited to share some of their treasure (leftover or extra Halloween candy) with Second Story (a refuge for homeless teens), the Children’s Hospital and military troops overseas.  Last year, Fairhill students collected over 200 pounds of candy to share!  We hope to do the same this year, so please encourage your Tiger to send in any candy they would like to share November 1st 7th. Thank you for helping us show that #OtherPeopleMatter!

If you have any questions, please see the flyer or reach out to  Mrs. Swanson.

Impact Aid Forms

FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an anticipated $3 million dollars in grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers. For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3.  All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 30 (tomorrow). All results are CONFIDENTIAL.

Dreambox

We have found that DreamBox usage is positively correlated with student achievement gains.  It is a super math resource that supplements what your student is learning in class through a series of fun, logic-based math games.  Every single child at Farhill can access to Dreambox through the Fairhill website.  Below is a chart of the recommended usage your student should play a week.  Encourage your student to play regularly at home!
