From the Principal's Desk

Dear Families,

Fall celebrations are all around us with a busy week ahead! First we must celebrate the NATIONALS! Have your child wear RED this Friday to celebrate their first home game of the world series. This Friday evening, we invite your family to come in costume to enjoy the new PTA event, Monster Mash! Next Thursday the 31st is an SCA spirit day—we encourage your child to dress up as a favorite Book Character. The first quarter ends on Friday, November 1. Be sure to make an appointment for a parent-teacher conference if you haven’t already done so, as many teachers have scheduled them for the teacher work days, November 4-5 or on the days leading up to them. Our focus in grade level morning meetings beginning this Friday will shift from kindness to bravery – we will solidify our month-long focus on bullying prevention with the importance of being an upstander. We appreciate your partnership in your child’s education!

Warm regards,

Diane Leipzig, Dr. L

Federal Impact Aid Surveys went Home with Students on October 22; Deadline to Return Survey Is October 30

FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an anticipated $3 million dollars in grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers. For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3.  All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 30. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.

FCPS Now Using the Here Comes the Bus Mobile App

To help you know when your child’s bus is approaching your stop, FCPS is now using the Here Comes the Bus mobile app. Here Comes the Bus is a free school bus tracking app that can simplify morning and afternoon routines for parents and students by giving real-time bus location and text or email notification alerts, helping everybody get to the bus stop on time.

Here Comes the Bus® uses FCPS global positioning system (GPS) data and an easy-to-use customizable map that works on one or multiple devices, such as a tablet or smartphone.

Get detailed instructions on how to get started using the Here Comes the Bus mobile app.
