Kilmer MS News You Choose and Halloween #10

m

Sophia had a successful time finding a beetle at Burke Lake for the Science 7 MWEE field trip.

From the Principal's Desk:

Greetings, Kilmer Cougar Families!

Next Thursday is Halloween. Students are allowed to wear their favorite costumes with the following caveats. Dress code rules must be followed and there are no weapons, no clowns, no masks and no body or face paint. Looking forward to a spooky day!

Next week is the last week of the 1st quarter - your students are amazing. I am thankful everyday to work at this school.

Have a good weekend!

Announcements

Mental Health Wellness

On Tuesday November 12 (Martians and Pegasus teams) and Wednesday November 13 (Guardians of the Galaxy and Constellations teams), 8th grade students will participate in a school counseling lesson about A.C.T. (Acknowledge, Care, Tell). Students will be reminded about the steps to take when they have concerns about themselves or a friend. They will watch a brief video highlighting the warning signs of suicide and symptoms of depression, engage in a discussion facilitated by the school counselor, and identify a trusted adult within the school building. Students will have the opportunity to request to speak to a counselor about themselves or a friend if they have concerns based on the information presented. This lesson is a follow up lesson to the Mental Health Wellness Program students participated in during their seventh grade year.

If your child approaches you with concerns about a friend’s mental health, use the following numbers to help them get immediate assistance:

  • Fairfax County Police Non-Emergency Line: 703-691-2131
  • CrisisLink: 703-527-4077
  • CrisisText: Text NEEDHELP to 85511
  • ALWAYS use 911 for life-threatening emergencies

Operation Medicine Cabinet

Operation Medicine Cabinet Cleanout is back. Bring your expired and unused meds to any Fairfax County Police Department station Saturday, October 26th from 10am to 2pm for safe and secure disposal.

On October 29, Kilmer will send home the the survey and asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an anticipated $3 million dollars in grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers. For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3.  All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 30. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.
