A Message From Principal Lemmon Addendum

Baileys student teacher

Welcome New Dance Teacher

Zena Nguon has been dancing since she was 6 years old and is currently a dance major at James Madison University. She is in her last semester of working to receive her Virginia Teaching Licensure in Dance. Ms. N is also a color guard coach at Fairfax High School and a dance teacher at C4 Performing Arts studio in Fairfax, VA. Some fun facts about Ms. N are that her favorite color is purple and her favorite movies are Peter Pan and Inside Out. She is excited to meet the students of Bailey's Upper Elementary School because her favorite thing about being a dance teacher is meeting new people!

IA

Please welcome our new Instructional Assistant, Kimberly Bellamy.

Dance For Kindness

We are very excited to share that Bailey’s Upper will be participating in Dance for Kindness again this year! Dance For Kindness is a WorldWide dance event that will be happening all over the world! In 2012, Life Vest Inside initiated Dance For Kindness (DFK), a WorldWide event in celebration of World Kindness Day. Groups from across the globe join together to perform a Kindness Freezmob/Flashmob to the same song, same dance, all happening on the same day. Every year there is a different choreographer and this year, Ms. Epstein is the choreographer for the whole world! Your child should have received two pieces of paper about DFK in their Thursday folders yesterday:

Yellow paper (DFK DC): On Sunday, November 10th, Bailey’s Upper students, families, and friends are invited to participate in DFK in Washington, D.C. Please fill out this paper and return to Ms. Epstein by no later than Friday, November 1st if your child is interested in participating in DFK on Sunday, November 10th at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C. at 1pm!  The cost is FREE for all Bailey’s Upper students! This is OPTIONAL. All students who would like to participate in DFK D.C. MUST be accompanied by an adult/parent/guardian. The adult must take the student to Washington, D.C., stay with the student during the event, and then take the student home after the event.

Purple paper (DFK @ Bailey’s Upper): On Monday, November 11th at 9 a.m. the entire school participates in DFK on the playground at Bailey’s Upper. Please fill out the purple permission paper and return to Ms. Epstein by no later than Friday, November 8th if you give permission for your to participate in DFK on Monday, November 11th, 2019 at Bailey’s Upper. By signing this paper, you will also give permission for your child to be photographed and videotaped because DFK will be filmed. This event is also FREE. For more information, please visit the website: danceforkindness.com. Children without signed permission slips will participate in an alternate area not being filmed.

Parents wanting to attend DFK on November 11th, should notify Ms. Epstein in advance at rsepstein@fcps.edu. We have space to accommodate a limited number of parents. Parents will need to arrive 30 minutes prior to the event to park and may watch from the cafeteria or covered parking area. Parents may need to seek parking off campus due to limited space and timing of the event. Gates to the campus will be closed prior and during the event.

Please email Ms. Epstein if you have any questions rsepstein@fcps.edu

Impact Aid

Beginning on October 21, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an anticipated $3 million dollars in grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers. For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3.  All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 30. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.
