TEACHER WORKDAY LUNCHEON–MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH

LANCERS AT THE MOVIES

Tuesday, November 5, 11:30 a.m. at the AMC Tysons Theater
Join your friends for a day at the movies on a teacher workday for only $11 per ticket! We will see The Addams Family, a new PG movie. This event is open to all Longfellow students, siblings, and parents. This is a private event – the Longfellow PTA will rent the whole theater. Buy your tickets here. Tickets are limited. and will be sold online only, so buy your tickets now! TICKETS WILL NOT BE SOLD AT THE DOOR.


CHINA EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Applications are now open for students to host and/or travel to China in 2020 as part of our very first China Exchange Program at Longfellow Middle School!
We will be welcoming 15-20 students from our partner school in China, from Friday, January 31st to Friday, February 7th, 2020. They will be hosted by Longfellow students and immersed in classes during the week with all programming to be coordinated by our trusted third party Alpha Exchange. For each student hosted, families will receive a $200 stipend or $500 credit towards the China trip during Spring Vacation. The trip will run from Wednesday, April 1st to Saturday, April 11th and cost $3,200 per student ($2,700 or $2,400 for students that hosted 1-2 students). We will visit our partner school and homestay with the Chinese exchange students in Yichang and enjoy 3 days of sightseeing in Beijing, including visits to the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Temple of Heaven and the Great Wall of China.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteers Needed
Please help the animals at Rikki’s Refuge, a non-kill large animal shelter in Orange, VA.
Rikki’s refuge will be collecting the leftover pumpkins from the St. Thomas Pumpkin Patch to feed the animal through the winter.
If you would like to help reload the leftover pumpkins – please join us on Saturday, November 2rd, 10am – noon. St Thomas Episcopal Church, 8991, Brook Rd, McLean 22102.

HAYCOCK ES ANNUAL STEAM NIGHT
Thursday, November 7th, 6:00-7:30 p.m.
On Thursday, November 7th, Haycock Elementary will be hosting its annual STEAM Night from 6 pm - 7:30 pm. It will be a great opportunity to have hands-on experience learning about Science, Math and Engineering concepts. We're looking for 25 student volunteers to assist in running experiments, assisting in setting/cleaning up and selling pizza. We need volunteers from about 5:30 pm - 8 pm - If you're interested, please contact Angad Buttar (Angad.Buttar@gmail.com).

Volunteer Opportunity at Chesterbrook ES
Looking for community service hours? Chesterbrook Elementary School is looking for responsible middle school volunteers to help with its Fall Book Fair set-up (Wednesday 11/6), Saturday morning "Books and Breakfast" event (11/09), and Taco Night (Tuesday, 11/12). MCLEAN HS WINTER GUARD

Love to dance? Love to perform? Love to make friends? Then join one of Mclean High School's three Winter Guard teams (Varsity, JV and Cadet). Students in 7th and 8th are encouraged to join and will placed on a team according to skill level.
Auditions:
10/29 from 6-9:30 in the MHS dance room (dance portion of audition)
11/1 from 6-9:30 in the MHS upper gym (flag portion of audition)
11/5 from 7-9 in the MHS band room (performance portion of audition)

FAIRFAX COUNTY ASSOCIATION FOR THE GIFTED - COLLEGE KNOWLEDGE SOONER

Construction as she compares options for enriching the high school years in
preparation for college. Join us as we discuss how to learn college-level material early by self-study, AP resources, college classes in high school, and early college.
This program is for middle and high school students and their parents to learn
more about options for advanced study. Free and open to the public with
