Mrs. Klena is inviting parents to join us on October 23rd 4:00-5:00 pm in the HMS Library to come have a conversation about how we can work together as a community to help students and families when student have conflicts. We have seen a few students have been uncharacteristically bold as to where they have engaged in fighting. We have had four fights at school that were in public places in the first weeks of school and this has caused disruption and safety concerns. We want to bring our parents in to share the steps we are taking to address this and together consider ways to support families and students with resources when students struggle with conflict. Some of our Herndon pyramid principals are also able to join in this important conversation.

Our HMS PTA is sponsoring a Parent Coffee where HMS administrators will talk about the procedures and approaches we have in place to continue to promote a safe and positive learning environment for all on November 6th from 10 am-11 am.
We will include topics addressed at the 10/23 meeting. We are offering both meetings in hopes that the flexibility will allow more parents to attend.

Last week’s P2 trait was Integrity. It was also OtherPeopleMatter week. Student Services sponsored a theme week and developed lessons to help students meet their Academic and Career Plan goals. Students began building a resume, set a SMART Goal, explored strengths and/or possible careers and learned about executive functioning and coping skills. More information on this and how to access your child’s plan is located here. This week students focus on Perspective. |
Beginning on October 21, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an anticipated $3 million dollars in grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers. For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 30. All results are CONFIDENTIAL. At HMS forms will go out on the 21st through HawkTime. Students should return them to their HT teacher as soon as possible. Video link - https://youtu.be/uPqC3BLf3Ow
