Announcements from Herndon Middle School 10/15/19

Message from Principal Klena

In the last few weeks, we have had increasing incidents of fighting between a small number of students at Herndon Middle School. These fights have created disruption and jeopardized safety for everyone. We are taking additional steps to ensure students understand they cannot fight at school.

A very small number of students have disrupted the whole school program, endangered others and defied the SR&R by engaging in physical altercations at school or going to or from school. We provide support to students who may have conflicts or who need additional coping skills. We use Restorative Justice, mentoring and behavior intervention plans for students who need additional support. Students and families should report issues and concerns to administrators, counselors, teachers or safety and security staff so that we can intervene and help. Our administrators will respond to fighting with the maximum consequences for this violation which can include out of school suspension and in some cases where there is injury a referral to the superintendent’s hearing office. Please contact any administrator with questions and concerns and if you can join us the HMS PTA is hosting a Parent Coffee with Administration on 11/6 at from 10:00 - 11:00 to discuss our safety procedures and plans.
