STUDENT-PARENT SURVEY FORMS FOR FEDERAL IMPACT AID WILL BE SENT HOME ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 22!

Each year, FCPS asks all families to complete and return a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.  Please mark your calendar to ask your child for this form so it can be reviewed, completed and returned ASAP.

The Impact Aid Program is a federal program designed to directly compensate local school districts that have been financially impacted by federal activities. The program's mission is to reimburse local school districts for local revenues lost due to the presence of federally owned, and therefore tax-exempt, property.

All schools are required to collect 100% of their forms, and the timeframe for doing so is very short.   Please plan to return your form no later than October 30.  Your immediate attention to this is very much appreciated!

Directions on how to complete the form will be included in next week's News You Choose.  Please view this video for a quick tutorial:

Digital Citizenship Week

FCPS is celebrating Digital Citizenship Week from October 21-25, 2019! This year’s theme is Media Balance and Well-Being: Developing a Healthy Relationship with Your Technology. Our school is celebrating Digital Citizenship Week with spirit days and activities focused on developing healthy habits around technology use. Students will have a choice board to select at least one activity a day that matches the daily theme. Parents can also choose to sign up to receive text messages from Common Sense Media with Tips for Health Tech Balance (for children ages 3-8).

Below you’ll find the schedule of spirit days along with resources and suggested activities to help support healthy habits at home too.

Spirit Days for the Week

Monday: Hat Day - Put on your thinking cap and reflect on your media use and habits.

Tuesday: Active Wear - Exercise your healthy tech habits.

Wednesday: Dress as your Muse - Dress up as your favorite artist, musician, author, inventor, actor/actress, scientist, etc. and focus on how you can use technology to create original works.

Thursday: “Lei” Off the Tech - wear Hawaiian clothing and take a break from screens to connect more in person.

Friday: Pink Panther Day - Wear pink to support and honor those with Breast Cancer.

Resources and Suggested Activities for Each Day's Theme

Vision and Hearing Screenings

Vision and hearing screening of all 7th grade students will be conducted all day on October 23 and 24 during Health/PE classes.

Please be sure to have your student wear or bring their glasses/contacts to school those days.

Parents will be notified by mail of any screening failures.

Pink Panther Day

RCMS is celebrating our annual Pink Panther Day on Friday, October 25. The SCA is encouraging students and staff to wear pink to honor those who have been affected by breast cancer. As a reminder, students must still follow the FCPS dress code for spirit days.

As a school, we raised $150 to be donated to The National Breast Cancer Foundation. Thank you to all who pre-ordered a Carson Thinks Pink t-shirt! T-shirts will be distributed no later than Tuesday, October 22.

PTA Cookie Dough Fundraiser

The PTA's primary fundraiser is underway.  Students received order packets during their lunch periods on October 7 (additional packets are available in the main office).  Funds raised will be utilized for instructional programs at RCMS.

If you are participating, please remember that students should not be selling door-to-door, but rather offering these treats to family, friends, and known neighbors.

Orders are due in the main office by the end of the school day on Tuesday, October 22, 2019.  Thank you for supporting your PTA and RCMS.

Leftover Halloween Candy?

The SCA is partnering with Treats for Troops, an organization that gives our country’s service members and veterans excess Halloween candy. If your family has any leftover Halloween candy please consider bringing the candy into Carson on November 1-8. Students can drop off their candy in the main office or outside Ms. Donlen’s room, A-209.
