Dear Members of the CHS Community:
I hope you had a good week. Special thanks to everyone that helped put on a great Homecoming Week. The parade was terrific, the football drew the largest crowd in years, and the dance on Saturday night was attended by over 800 students without incident. In addition to sharing some good news, I need to ask for your help. Membership in our PTSA is way down this year and we need your help. Please help show your children that school matters and that you are invested in their success and their future. The Chantilly HS PTSA offers a variety of unique programs and materials for students, parents, families, schools, and communities. It also gives families and community members a “seat at the table” when it comes to making important school decisions. By working together, PTSA members advance local, state, and national laws and policies to improve the education, health, and well-being of all children. The event will take place on November 12 (Tuesday) at Chantilly High School. The performance portion of the evening will begin at 6:00 PM, followed by a dessert reception (and a thank you gift for all of our attending veterans!)

Class of 2020:
All Night Grad Party
Registration is open for the Class of 2020's All Night Grad Party (ANGP), which will be held at the school on June 2, 2020 from 11pm-5am. The PTSA is committed to promoting a safe, supervised, memory-filled all-night graduation celebration in an alcohol and drug-free safe environment. This year will be the 33rd party at Chantilly. Last year, over 350 Class of 2019 students attended and enjoyed the casino, ate food all night long, and attempted to win over a hundred raffles that included electronics, concert tickets, sports tickets, and much more. To register your student, please go online to the PTSA’s online payment system, PT Board (https://www.ptboard.com/nlg/login). Complete the registration and submit your payment using PayPal all in one easy step. The cost is $75 (plus $2 handling fee) until December 31, 2019 then prices will increase to $85 through the end of May. Paying the night of the party is $100 so don't delay! While on the site, please consider purchasing a Graduation Yard Sign and joining the PTSA.
Odyssey Yearbook
Odyssey Yearbook is still accepting senior personal ads for the 2020 book! View the form with instructions that can be accessed via the CHS Website or the PTSA Website. We have extended the initial deadline until the pages are filled. Students can also pick up a form outside of 229!
Calendar Reminder: Schools Closed on October 14 for Columbus Day Holiday
As a reminder, schools will be closed for students on Monday, October 14, for the Columbus Day holiday. October 14 is a school planning day for staff members. SACC will be open. Classes will resume on Tuesday, October 15. See the complete 2019-20 school year calendar.
Recognitions
Congratulations to Ms. Anne Fenton, who recently received the FCPS Cares of the Month award.
"Anne went above and beyond for me this summer. I previously worked in the same building with Anne at CHS about a year and a half ago but never had the pleasure of working directly with her. We would simply say hello in the hallway, eventually learned each other's names, and briefly talked about our daughters. This school year, I found out I will be teaching in a new subject area and reached out to Anne during the summer via email because I knew she taught science. I wasn't even sure which one. She emailed me back within minutes and took time out of her day to me at a coffee shop the following Monday. She gave me a USB with all of her course materials for the course I will be teaching. In addition, she offered continued support throughout the school year and we exchanged numbers. I have worked in FCPS for fifteen years and this is by far one of the kindest things a colleague has done. There are teachers in this county who truly care about one another and support each other. Anne is one of these people and I am grateful for her. Thank you, Anne."
Congratulations to Mr. Joe Clement who was recently honored as the George Mason University Center for Economic Education Outstanding Economic Educator of the Year.
On October 6, our AFJROTC cadets went to visit residents at a Sunrise Senior Living Facility. They visited with the residents and helped them make posters for an Honor Flight Event on Oct 7. Honor Flight is a program that brings veterans to Washington DC to honor them for their service and take them to visit the war memorials in DC at no expense to the veterans.

On October 7th, 10 cadets went to Dulles Airport to join with others and greet 100 veterans who served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam arriving on an Honor Flight from Spokane Washington. |

Recent Student Successes
This is the next installment for the school year of what has become a weekly segment aimed at recognizing students for demonstrating recent improvement or achievement in academics, behavior or citizenship. At the end of each recognition, you will see the name of the nominating teacher or staff member. On a rotating basis, departments will nominate students. I plan to meet with recognized students each week to congratulate them in person.

Haley Herman has handled the stress of senior year, college auditions, and applications with grace. She has kept her positive energy and enthusiasm and continues to impress as a performer and lead by example for the whole department. Mr. Andy Shaw
- We celebrate Collin Johnson as an avid reader and library regular. His reading choices are varied and show an eagerness to learn. Collin is polite and good-natured during his time in the library. Ms. Robyn Chung, Ms. Kristen Zemba and Ms. Jodi Hackett
- I am very proud of Hayden Lumpkin and the way he has been able to navigate the start of the year. Hayden always comes to class ready to make art and he has a fantastic work ethic. Piper Read has been an essential part of our production team and took on a leadership position the second day of school. She has the ability to encourage all students, has an incredible eye for costume design and is a true professional in her craft. I am very grateful to have such a talented young lady take the lead in class and mentor our beginning students. Ms. Shannon Spicer
