From the Principal’s Desk
Dear Families,
Did you know that October is Dyslexia Awareness month? I have a particular interest in this topic because my niece has dyslexia and I served as the FCPS Dyslexia Specialist before becoming your principal. Dyslexia is an unexpected difficulty with decoding or spelling words quickly and accurately. Our teachers have a variety of ways to assess these skills in order to identify unexpected difficulties and to intervene appropriately. Some students with characteristics of dyslexia are well served with interventions, but depending on the severity, some students may need additional supports and services. If you are concerned about your child’s reading, be sure to communicate your concerns to your child’s teacher. And you’re always welcome to reach out to me directly!
The county provides many resources for families in the FCPS dyslexia handbook at https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/special-education-instruction/dyslexia-handbook. Interested in learning more? Register for the dyslexia open house on October 24 at 10 AM by filling out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeai57Mwh31FJU-VWk2kZa1VkCXTX_TpWKzqCoiA8X2VPPhrQ/viewform
Have a wonderful week!
Warmly, Diane Leipzig, “Dr. L”

From Ms. Adams:
The Environmental Club is looking for ten new members! Please look in your child’s Take Home Tuesday folder for the information and request form. Due to the limited space we will run the membership request through a lottery system. The club meets the first Thursday of the month from 8:20-9:00 in Ms. Adams’ room. Looking forward to another great group of environmentally friendly advocates!
Please look in your child’s Take Home Tuesday folder for the information and request form or fill out this Google form to express your child’s interest:

Impact Aid Programs
Impact Aid programs and grants are designed to assist local school districts that enroll federally connected students. The grants from these programs will become a part of FCPS' general operating budget and are critical to ensuring that all children in FCPS receive an excellent education. FCPS anticipates receiving about $3,000,000 annually in Impact Aid funds. FCPS uses the Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid to identify federally connected students and to support our request for Impact Aid resources. Starting on October 21, the survey will be distributed to all FCPS families.
