We are excited to announce that LBSS is in the process of establishing a School Planning Council (SPC)! Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Program

Students who violate the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug (ATOD) regulation of the Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) take part in our ATOD Intervention Program.

Students meet with a Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist (SAPS) in school during the school day. The SAPS assesses a student’s level of substance use and provide appropriate  level of intervention, which can include:

  • Substance abuse prevention education,
  • Individual or group intervention,
  • Referral to a community behavioral health provider.

FCPS provides students with the most accurate and up-to-date information on substance use, addiction, and treatment. This includes medical, physical, social and psychological consequences. Students learn the tools and strategies they need to stop using these substances, including refusal skills and cessation techniques.

Staff members and parents can refer a student to the ATOD program. Students can also refer themselves. A student can take part in the ATOD program regardless of whether the student has violated the ATOD regulation in the SR&R.

You can find more information on the website below.  Our Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist is Ken Johnson.  He may be reached through email at kwjohnson@fcps.edu or by phone (703) 426-6484

Raiders on 100519

LBSS JROTC Place 2nd in Raider Competition
Our Lake Braddock JROTC Raiders competed in the Raider competition at Orange High School in Orange, Virginia this past weekend. They kicked off the chilly Saturday morning at 8 a.m. with a 5K group run in tactical uniform, followed by a 75-pound litter carry through a 200-yards obstacle course, rope bridge and logistical relay race. Our LBSS Raiders placed 2nd in the logistical relay race.

As if the competition were not enough for the day, the JROTC team traveled back to Burke that day and went straight to White Oaks Elementary School where about 40 cadets volunteered their time to assist with the elementary school's Fall Festival, helping to run the different stations.

We're so very proud of them. Go LBSS Raiders!
