"Marshall Fund for Music Education" Established

The Foundation for FCPS is proud to announce the establishment of the Michael I. Marshall Fund for Music Education. Named after a former resident of Fairfax County, the fund is being set up in fall, 2019 with proceeds from an estate gift, and will enable students with financial need in Justice, Falls Church, Annandale and Mount Vernon High Schools to attend professional music performances, participate in summer music education programs, gain access to musical instruments, and receive financial support for post-secondary music education. More details about the fund's administration will be available soon on the Foundation website.

The Foundation and everyone at Fairfax County Public Schools thank the Marshall family for remembering their son in this unique and powerful way.

Photos from the school board's recognition of the family are available here

Friends of Frying Pan Park Provide Admission Fees for Needy Students

For the third year in a row, the Friends of Frying Pan Park gave $5,000 to the Foundation for FCPS to provide field trips for students in Title I elementary schools. This year, those funds will enable over 880 students in Pre-K through third grade to visit the park, see farm animals up close, and learn about farm life in the 1920's-1950's. We are grateful to the Friends for remembering FCPS students in need and providing them with this great opportunity!

Cox Business Helps Ft. Belvoir Elementary Families Attend Nationals Game

The last game of the Washington Nationals season welcomed some special guests, 2,000 attendees from Ft. Belvoir Elementary School and their families! To make sure everyone could make it, Cox Business provided funding for school buses to bring families to the ballpark. The students and their parents were thrilled to attend a major league game, something they might not ordinarily be able to do. Read more about it on the Ft. Belvoir website. And thank you to Cox Business!

Teacher Grants in Action

Great work is being done in FCPS and funded through the Foundation's Teacher Grant program.

Read the latest blog post about how our grant is helping students at Braddock Elementary School.

Follow the Foundation on Twitter, @fcpsfoundation, to see pictures and videos from other schools about grant funds in action.

Here's a great example:

The Forestdale Elementary Schools' Young Scholars program is using grant money for a semester-long project to design a plan to impact the local watershed. Students recently took a tour of the Potomac River on a research vessel run by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to explore fish, water quality and the ecosystem. Now students will be selecting a project to research and share in their new roles as ecologists.
