Spirit Day
German Spirit Week- October 8-11 (Tuesday -Friday), please read below for more details.

German Spirit Week (10/7-10/11)
This year marks the anniversary of 30 years of Language Immersion in FCPS and 25 years of German Immersion at Orange Hunt! To acknowledge and celebrate this milestone, and since the entire student population is now experiencing some German every week, we would like to involve the whole school in a German spirit week during the week of October 7 - 11.
Monday: In class student voting which will be announced at the end of the week. (No specific attire this day, as we will remind students of what to wear the rest of the week.)
Tuesday: Wear colors of the German flag (can be black, red or yellow).
Wednesday: Germans love sports - wear a soccer jersey or other sports wear.
Thursday:Germans love to travel - wear something from a place to which you've traveled or a country where German is spoken or a place where you've lived.
Friday: Environmental awareness and love of the outdoors is very strong in Germany. Wear green or a shirt with an animal or nature motif.

Advanced Academics Program information
Level IV Fall Screening Referrals due: Thursday, October 10, 2019 (new to county only in 3rd - 6th)
Level IV Spring Referrals due: January 9, 2020

November 13th - PTO meeting – quick overview of levels of service and screening process.

December 4th – Evening meeting – focused meeting on the screening process for level IV full-time services.
West Springfield Pyramid Parent Program
We want to give you a heads up about an event on November 13th at West Springfield HS. The elementary and middle school counselors in the pyramid have been working on creating a Pyramid Parent Night on the topic of Anxiety. We will be showing the movie “Angst” and having a panel of mental health experts answer some questions afterwards, as well as a resource fair for parents to get additional information or talk with area therapists. More information will be coming but please save the date.
Global Plus
Global Plus: Offering Spanish and German classes for students in K-6th grade. Classes meet once a week on Wednesdays or Thursdays depending on grade level and language. Please see flyer for details.
Advanced German for grades 3-6 begins on Tuesday, November 19th for students comfortable speaking basic German. This class focuses on grammar, reading and writing in German, and increasing vocabulary.
The GLOBAL Plus Program is an approach to language learning that allows students to develop communicative skills, using interactive SMART board technology and other fun activities. The curriculum is designed so students taking the class in multiple years will learn new vocabulary and participate in different activities. Classes are suitable for students beginning a new language and students with experience in the language.
