Student Schedules

Student Schedule Change Process

Beginning Tuesday, October 1, students may email their counselor to initiate a schedule change request. Forms will be available to students and the input of the student and different adults (including parents, teachers, counselors, Case Managers, and IB Coordinators) will be required. We want students to excel in the courses they selected. Therefore, a schedule change is a last resort option, after multiple attempts have been made to reach success. Please know that many of our classes are at capacity. If a schedule change cannot be granted, other options will be reviewed. To discuss the process or to receive a form, students should email their counselors. Requests to change a schedule should be received by October 31.

Grading & Reporting

We are now at the interim point to the end of the first quarter. Parents and students are encouraged to review student academic standing in all courses and begin planning for the final weeks of the quarter. The end of the quarter is on November 1, and many teachers close gradebooks prior to that date. Study hard, Lancers, and let’s make it a successful first quarter!

Student Health & Wellness

E-Cigarette (“Vape”) Health Advisory

In light of recent cases of severe respiratory illnesses associated with the use of e-cigarettes and “vaping” among youth and young adults, the Fairfax County Health Department has posted a health advisory.  The advisory can be found here: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/health/severe-lung-illness-associated-vaping-what-you-need-know. As well, parents are encouraged to review the following website, compiled by FCPS, to better understand vaping and available resources. https://www.fcps.edu/vaping/parents

Student Meetings with Counselors

Junior Class Meetings

School counselors have completed their class meetings with seniors and freshmen. We will be meeting with juniors through their advisory classes beginning on October 8. More information is to come.

Individual Student-to-Counselor Meetings

It is important to all staff at Lee High School that school counselors meet the individual needs of each student.  A lot of this work occurs during individual student/counselor conferences.  Currently, when students need to speak with their counselor, they go to the Student Services Department and wait in lines.  This is not efficient for the student, counselor, or the teacher, as many students are missing a lot of class time simply waiting.  This has an impact on their education for the class time they are missing, on the teacher who needs to catch them up on what they missed, and on the counselor who may not be prepared for the meeting’s topic.  We are in the process of reorganizing our systems to support our students and staff in the most efficient way possible, beginning with the procedure for an individual student/counselor meeting.

**New Procedure:  Students are asked to email their school counselor when they would like to meet with them individually.  We will make every effort to see students within 48 hours of their request.  After students receive an appointment time through the counselor’s emailed response, we will be able to assure that the student needs are met and they are in class, learning, for the maximum time possible.  Students, staff, and parents/guardians will receive more communication surrounding individual student/counselor conferences in the coming weeks.  To access each counselor’s email address, please go to:  https://leehs.fcps.edu/student-services/staff

***Any student who is in crisis or who is experiencing an emergency should see their counselor right away.  We want to support any student in this situation immediately, and we have a School Social Worker and School Psychologist to assist students as well.
