A Message From Principal Lemmon

Spanish Immersion

Most, but not all the FCPS approved, high-quality math and science resources are available in Spanish. Therefore, Spanish Immersion teachers may occasionally use English resources (when no translation is available), in order to enrich and enhance learning for our Spanish Immersion students.

Any homework sent home in English will be accompanied with an explanation of its function to help students bridge the English and Spanish vocabulary. As you know, state testing is always in English and mathematics classes in middle/high schools may be in English. Homework and some classwork in English supports acquisition of important vocabulary in both languages.

Birthday Celebrations

Many families like to send treats into school for a child’s birthday. We prefer you bring in non-food treats for the entire class such as pencils, erasers, notepads, etc. We will not accept any cakes that need to be cut or ice cream that needs to be scooped. If you insist on a food item, please bring store bought items with an ingredient list.

  • Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your child’s lunch time.
  • Check in to the office to share you have birthday treats and office staff will review the allergy flag lists.
  • Assist your child in passing out treat to students in your child’s class.

Trunk or Treat

Join us for the Bailey’s Trunk or Treat on Tuesday, October 29th from 5 to 6 PM at the Bailey’s Primary parking lot. Students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Bailey’s Primary and Upper staff will be passing out treats for students as the students walk from car to car. Students are encouraged to dress up in family-friendly costumes for the after-school event and to come ready to have fun.

We are taking donations for treats, i.e. sealed and packaged candy, glow sticks, small toys, pencils, etc. Please drop the donations off at the front office or at kiss & ride.

Dance For Kindness

We are very excited to share that Bailey’s Upper will be participating in Dance for Kindness again this year! Dance For Kindness is a WorldWide dance event that will be happening all over the world! In 2012, Life Vest Inside initiated Dance For Kindness (DFK), a WorldWide event in celebration of World Kindness Day. Groups from across the globe join together to perform a Kindness Freezmob/Flashmob to the same song, same dance, all happening on the same day. Every year there is a different choreographer and this year, Ms. Epstein is the choreographer for the whole world! Your child should have received two pieces of paper about DFK in their Thursday folders yesterday:

Yellow paper (DFK DC): On Sunday, November 10th, Bailey’s Upper students, families, and friends are invited to participate in DFK in Washington, D.C. Please fill out this paper and return to Ms. Epstein by no later than Friday, November 1st if your child is interested in participating in DFK on Sunday, November 10th at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C. at 1pm!  The cost is FREE for all Bailey’s Upper students! This is OPTIONAL. All students who would like to participate in DFK D.C. MUST be accompanied by an adult/parent/guardian. The adult must take the student to Washington, D.C., stay with the student during the event, and then take the student home after the event.

Purple paper (DFK @ Bailey’s Upper): On Monday, November 11th, our entire school participates in DFK on the playground at Bailey’s Upper (parents cannot attend this event due to limited space—if parents would like to attend, please join us in Washington, D.C.). Please fill out this paper and return to Ms. Epstein by no later than Friday, November 8th if you give permission for your to participate in DFK on Monday, November 11th, 2019 at Bailey’s Upper. By signing this paper, you will also give permission for your child to be photographed and videotaped because DFK will be filmed. This event is also FREE. For more information, please visit the website: danceforkindness.com.
