Kiss and Ride Tardies
We are seeing an increase in the use of Kiss and Ride for morning transportation. As the line grows, so do the number of students receiving unexcused tardies for late arrivals. Unless FCPS bus transportation is not provided to your neighborhood, late arrivals due to Kiss and Ride traffic will continue to be unexcused. We do hope you will consider using FCPS bus transportation, thus ensuring that your student arrives to their first class of the day on time and ready to receive important instructions from their teachers. Arriving on time sets the tone for the day!
Veterans Day
Calling for Veteran Volunteers - Rachel Carson Middle School would like to invite our community’s veterans to speak with students and share their experiences on the morning of Monday, November 11. Please fill out this form if you or a member of your family is a veteran and would be interested in participating. In order to participate in our Veterans Day program please fill out this form by Friday, October 11!
Volunteers Needed
Vision and hearing screening will be held on October 23 and 24 for all 7th graders. If your child wears glasses, please be sure he/she has them at school on screening day. The purpose of screening is to identify students who need further evaluation because they have difficulty seeing the screening chart or hearing the screening tones.
Parents will be notified by letter if screening results indicate that further testing is needed. Vision and hearing difficulties can interfere with learning. Prompt follow-up of a referral is recommended.
We need parent volunteers to assist with the screening process. Any parent interested, please sign up here:

Visit Exotic Panama
Want to give your child a unique educational experience? We are so excited to announce that Sofi Cahoon will be leading a group of students to Panama through EF Educational Tours. The trip will take place in July of 2020. Students will visit Panama City, tour a pineapple farm, see the biodiversity of the rainforest firsthand and explore the Panama Canal among other activities. Attached is the invite to the mandatory parent meeting where you will get all the details and have your questions answered. We want to help as many students as possible experience this once in a lifetime trip. Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Cahoon at srcahoon@fcps.edu with your general questions. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.
