Message from the Principal

Daugherty

Dear Beech Tree Families,

We are excited to see you this Saturday, September 28th for our Family Field Trip to the National Museum of the American Indian. Please be sure you sent in your rsvp. The buses will leave Beech Tree at 9:30am.

As a Positivity Project School, this week, we are focusing on “Teamwork.” Please use the link to hear co-founder, Mike Erwin, speak about the value of teaching this P2 Trait in schools: https://youtu.be/gL2Puv9dR4k

One of the things we are most proud of in the Beech Tree community is that our students develop empathy and understanding, as well as respect for each other. Our students learn about special needs such as autism, since we are fortunate to have an Enhanced Autism center. Ms. Yolanda Adams, our school counselor teaches guidance lessons to Kindergarten through 2nd grade once a week and once a month to 3rd-5th grade. This month, she has taught students about what autism is and our students have learned more about their fellow classmates with special needs. They are learning how to respond appropriately. One very empathetic question that was asked was, “What about Lockdown Drills and our friends with Autism? Are they able to stay quiet?” We reassured our students and gave examples of how we support our friends during all drills. I’m so glad our students feel safe asking questions to better understand each other.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 5th for “The Taste of Annandale.” The Taste of Annandale is a free, family-friendly street festival featuring food trucks, live music, an aerial dance performance, a best-dressed pet contest, a full day of children’s entertainment, 5K race, the police helicopter, a chili cook-off, vendors, and more. The Taste of Annandale 5K race starts at 9:30 a.m. in the Kmart parking lot, 4251 John Marr Drive. Sign up here: http://bit.ly/2BMXVUr. For more information visit: https://tasteofannandale.com/.

As always, thank you for your trust. Reach out if you ever have any questions or concerns!
