Principal's Desk

Dear Eagle Families,

In October, we have many events planned for your family to return to Lanier and meet with our staff in a variety of events. We will be having music events, Digital Citizenship Night on October 24th, and an ESOL Family Potluck on October 30th.  We also still need many Career Day speakers to help us have a successful career day on November 6th.  Use this LINK for more information.

Additionally, your support in our community has resulted in some monetary donations to our schools. Your students' efforts at school have also resulted in recognition at the state level for our eco-awareness efforts.

  • The Asha-Jyothi 5K Run was on Sept. 15th and your participation earned us $407.  I thank all families and students who participated Lanier's first year of participating in this community event to raise money for STEM activities.
  • The 3rd Annual Safeway Foundation SCHOOL SPIRIT campaign was this past month. Your shopping at Safeway store on Willard Way, Fairfax, VA raised $1,652.63 on behalf of Lanier.  Thanks!
  • Again for the eighth year, Lanier is selected as one of four schools as the 2019 Virginia Naturally Schools.  Virginia Naturally Schools is the official environmental education school recognition program of Virginia.

Thank you for making LMS a great place to work by entrusting us with your most precious treasure. We do not take this responsibility or partnership lightly.

Sincerely,

Tammy Hanna

"Hey Stress, Let's break up"

stress

There are often many pressures in the lives of young people.  Worrying about school work, experiencing physical and hormonal changes, and fitting in to a social circle, are some of the stressors that impact a teen's daily life.  While stress may ebb and flow, there are so many ways to encourage your child to cope with the difficult situations that arise.  Motivating your teen to be healthy is a great place to start.  Encourage your child to get enough sleep at night, make time to relax and have fun, and engage in more physical activity.  Promoting healthier behaviors may allow your child to feel more at east when faced with challenges that causes stress.

The Office of Talent Acquisition & Management (TAM) will host a Career Switcher Information Session at the Willow Oaks Administrative Center on Monday, October 14, 2019, 5:30-&;30pm in Room 1000A.  This event will give military veterans, community members and anyone interested an opportunity to learn how to become a licensed Virginia teacher.

The information session will begin with presentation from the five approved Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) career switcher programs, Educate Virginia, Old Dominion University, Regent University, Shenandoah University and Virginia Commonwealth University.  Troops to Teachers will also present their programs offerings to our military veteran attendees.  A panel of FCPS educators will share valuable information with attendees, followed by an opportunity to network with the six presenters, the FCPS licensure team and the substitute office.
