Kilmer MS Week and Kilmer's Got Talent #6

r

All ready to go for after school activities!

From the Principal's Desk:

Greetings Cougar Community:

As we progress into the first quarter, I hope you are speaking with your students about what they are doing in their classrooms.  I ask them every day, and they seem to be excited about what they are learning.  All of our teachers are posting learning targets so that students know the focus of the class and what they will be learning in that day’s lesson.  They should also be aware of their own learning so that they will know when they have mastered that day’s target.  Teachers plan these lessons in their collaborative teams, which are comprised of the other teachers who teach that subject.  They decide as a group on the essential learning and how to assess each unit or lesson.  After an assessment, the collaborative team will examine the students’ results and decide on reteaching and/or retake opportunities.

Thus far, I have been very impressed with the students’ preparedness and engagement during class.  They seem to truly enjoy their classes and what the teachers are doing.  Likewise, the teachers truly enjoy teaching your students.

Don’t forget that you can check your students’ grades on SIS ParentVue.  In case you haven’t logged on, we are sending home instructions on how to do so. Please continue to speak with your students about their classes and encourage them to be an active learner!

Have a good weekend!

Auditions Kilmer's Got Talent

Every year the drama department at Kilmer Middle School produces Kilmer’s Got Talent, the annual talent show.  Through individual coaching sessions, group rehearsals and full run throughs, the cast and crew work together to create a night of talent and hope to walk away with one of the final awards.  Students are judged in categories and may also receive the Tara Taylor Award – awarded to the student or students who show dedication and passion in the theatre arts.  Auditions for Kilmer’s Got Talent are NEXT WEEK on October 2nd and October 3rd! Students can sign up on the callboard across from G103 or see Mrs. Kozik if they have any questions or concerns!

Reminders

After school interest survey

Kilmer's After-School Program is looking to partner with the Vienna Teen Center’s Club Phoenix.  One service that we are looking at potentially offering is a shuttle bus that would transport students from our KMS Afterschool Program to Club Phoenix at 4:45PM. Only students with a completed  Kilmer MS Afterschool Registration Form and  Club Phoenix Registration Form will be able to use this service.  Students may participate in Club Phoenix activities until the center closes at 6:30PM Monday-Thursday and 10PM on Fridays. Parents/Guardians are responsible for transportation home from Vienna Teen Center.

Please complete the  KMS Afterschool to Vienna Teen Center Shuttle Survey  so we can gauge Parent/Student interest. Survey results will be used to coordinate a schedule.

Here Comes the Bus available

As a result of the Transportation Services' strategic plan, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has decided to pilot the Here Comes the Bus® mobile app at all FCPS locations.  Know when your bus is approaching your stop!  Here Comes the Bus® app is a school bus tracking app that can simplify morning and afternoon routines for parents and students by giving them real-time bus location and text or email notification alerts, helping them get to the bus stop on time. Here Comes the Bus® utilizes our GPS data and an easy to use customizable map that works on one or multiple devices, such as a tablet or smartphone. Get more info here.
