Weekly News From South County High School

From the Principal

Family,

This was another week we can surely call a success.  We are continuing our positive momentum we have established and are looking forward to more of the same going forward.  Students and teachers are continuing to work on those positive relationships, and what is even better, I am seeing so much more student to student great interactions.

I want to give a shout out to our Black Student Alliance and Minority Achievement Committee parents for hosting an ice cream social last weekend to kick off the MAC Scholars program which is a free tutoring opportunity for any high school or middle school student that runs two weekends a month.  It was an awesome event, and I was proud to have been able to spend time with some dedicated students who have obviously identified a strategy to help them when they find themselves needing a little instructional assistance.  If you have students who are in need of some weekend help, please encourage your student to come up to the school and be a part of this outstanding resource.

I would like to thank all of our parents and students who have been able to come out and cheer for all of our athletes and participants.  Our fans have been just outstanding this year and it has been fun interacting with you all.  The energy has been off the charts.  After the end of a long night on Tuesday at the volleyball game against Woodson, there were about 100 folks in the stands.  Half were Woodson fans, and half South County.  What was great, heading into the 5 and final varsity game, one of our super students got everyone; both South County and Woodson fans in a spirited cheering match!  It was clean, fun, and most of all, we won it!  Please continue to come out and support.  We are the best thing in town going, and I could not be more proud of the work we are doing together for every student in our building.

Well enjoy our weekend and I will check back with you next week.  #OneStallion

From the PTSO

For Junior/Senior Parents

Learn the Playbook will be holding an SAT Bootcamp online on Saturday and Sunday, September 28 and 29, from 12pm-4pm. Tuition is just $195 for both days; the PTSO receives a portion of the proceeds. For more information or to enroll, go to learntheplaybook.com.

Don’t delay--the registration deadline is September 26.

Help Wanted

We are looking for someone to be the coordinator for our ACT/SAT prep programming. This involves researching available options and negotiating a contract, then ongoing coordination (which is not expected to be very time consuming—it’s the research and negotiation that takes the most time). Please email pres@southcountyptso.org if interested in learning more.

LCAC is hoping to bring in 10,000 pounds of food and have more than 100 volunteers onsite helping. Kids as young as 4 can volunteer!
