Principal Message 9.18.19

Daugherty

Dear Beech Tree Families,

The school year is off to a great start! Students have been engaging in meaningful learning activities such as, learning about autism and how we are all special, learning about the rivers of Virginia and what makes rivers important for society, team building, ratios and proportional reasoning, counting, comparing and grouping money, keeping a steady beat, writing in Arabic, patterns, ecosystems, digital citizenship, and how to monitor our reading to “fix” our comprehension.
I am very proud of their efforts!

If you haven’t already, I encourage you to follow my twitter account at PrincipalDaugherty@BeechTreeElem, as well as our Beech Tree staff twitter accounts, which you can find through my followers and through my retweets. Twitter is a great platform for sharing photos and videos of students participating in learning and celebrating successes. For many teachers in FCPS, including myself, using social media in a professional capacity allows us to give the Beech Tree parents and community a lens into the amazing learning, collaboration, and creativity that takes place in our buildings.

I find that sharing our class activities and lessons on Twitter serves as an opportunity to actively participate in valuable professional development opportunities that are available to educators on social platforms at no cost. Also, uncovering relevant, innovative instructional practices or resources for our classrooms help us learn and grow. It is always exciting to bring these discoveries back to our students.

Rest assured that our using social media in a professional capacity will not detract from students’ learning. If you have any questions about your child being featured in my FCPS social media post(s), please let me know.

Thank you,

Karim Daugherty

Principal
