Advanced Academics Program Overview Presentation

Tuesday, September 24

6:30 PM in the Fairview POD

Are you interested in finding out more about AAP?

This presentation is for all K-6 parents.

Mrs. Moser, the AAP Coach, will give an overview of the program, which will include how the process of identification for the program works and the differentiated services that are available.

Fairview Social Media

The school year is off to a great start! Students have been engaging in meaningful learning activities such as readers’ theatre, math centers, number talks, and so much more. We are very proud of their efforts!

If you haven’t already, we encourage you to follow our school Twitter account at @fairviewesfcps. Twitter is a great platform for sharing photos and videos of students participating in learning and celebrating successes. For many teachers and administrators in FCPS, including ourselves, using social media in a professional capacity allows us to provide Fairview parents and community a lens into the amazing learning, collaboration, and creativity that takes place in our building.

We find that sharing class activities and lessons on our class and school Twitter pages serves as an opportunity to actively participate in valuable professional development opportunities that are available to educators on social platforms at no cost. Also, uncovering relevant, innovative instructional practices or resources for our school and classrooms help us learn and grow. It is always exciting to bring these discoveries back to our teachers and students.

Rest assured that us using social media in a professional capacity will not detract from students’ learning.

Watch D.O.G.S. opportunities begin October 1st!

Email WatchDOGS@fairviewpta.org to let us know you're interested and we'll get you on track from there! Who are Watch D.O.G.S.?  Not just "Dads Of Great Students," but also grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures!  This program is designed to provide opportunities for positive male role models to get involved and stay involved with our fantastic Fairview Falcons.  Evening and daytime opportunities exist!  Daytime volunteers are expected to spend at least one morning or afternoon each year in their child's classroom.  During that time, Watch D.O.G.S. may read and work on flash cards with students, play at recess, eat lunch with students, watch the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but with other students as well.  Evening opportunities revolve around PTA events like last year's Bingo Night and Glow Dance.  Watch D.O.G.S. may attend evening events in their official Watch D.O.G.S. t-shirt and provide assistance by keeping an eye on entrances and exits during the event, patrolling the hallways or perimeter for suspicious activity, and just generally keeping the peace. More information at https://www.fairviewpta.org/volunteer!

Give the gift of time - Recess Relief is back!

The Fairview PTA's Recess Relief Program needs your help giving our amazing teachers the gift of time throughout this school year!

We are asking for volunteers from each class to provide blacktop coverage for their teacher during recess once a month.  It's easy, it's fun, and the teachers love it!  Find more information or sign up for a slot here:  https://www.signupgenius.com/tabs/43074dc01a2ceecc24-fairview

Fairview Running shirts - on sale til Friday, 9/20 ONLY! Kids, parents and teachers have asked for a Fairview Running shirt to wear in support of the program and for school spirit days.  Through September 20, we are offering the opportunity to buy two different shirts; a long-sleeve pink and a short-sleeve black shirt.  More details and payment instructions are in the order form.  Order as many as you like, but only one per form, at this link: Support Fairview Running!  (If your child is on the team this fall, he/she will receive a different color shirt with the program. This is an opportunity to buy additional shirts.)  If you have questions, please contact Erin at eherbig@gmail.com.

Did you join the PTA yet?  Early bird registration extended to 9/30/19!

It's never too late to join the PTA...but if you do it by September 30, you'll be entered in a drawing to win a $100 Amazon gift card.  www.fairviewpta.org

Can you help deliver unopened food from the Fairview cafeteria to a local family homeless shelter?

It takes an hour of your time, but makes a huge difference! Kid-friendly, too! Please take a look at the SUG and see if there is a week you can help out. Thanks!  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c044ea8a723a20-homeless5
