Mrs. Gilster's class...deep in thought!

A message from Mr. Chiet (Principal) and Mrs. O'Donovan (Assistant Principal)

Dear Timber Lane Families,

We have a busy week ahead!  On Monday, September 16th we will begin the Positivity Project!  The Positivity Project (P2) is a program we will use in our morning meetings that will help us build relationships with one another, every day.  It will help us discover and recognize 24 character strengths we all have.  P2 will help us recognize these qualities in one another and help us be our best selves every day!  We will focus on approximately one character trait each week.  We will learn the meaning of the character trait, see an example of it in action and discuss the importance of each trait while we engage in meaningful and fun morning meeting activities.  We will also find ways to share this with our families and recognize it within each other often!  As students begin to talk about P2, we would love to hear from our families about these conversations!  Please reach out and email Mr. Chiet, Mrs. O'Donovan, and your child's teacher if P2 comes up in conversation at the dinner table!  We hope it will have an incredible impact on our school culture in the days and years ahead!

On Wednesday, September 18th we will have our first of many Coffee with the Principals at 7:30-8:30AM in the library.  We will also offer Licuados with the Principal (including an interpreter) for parents from 5:30-6:30PM in the library.  Our first PTA meeting will take place at 7:00 on the 18th as well.  We will have our Parent Liaison/Interpreter present at the PTA meeting so we can accommodate and reach out to as many of our families as possible.

On Thursday, September 19th we will have our 2nd Annual Read-In at 6:00PM in the gym!  Every child that attends our Read-In will receive a book mark and coupon from CHIPOTLE good for a FREE MEAL!!!  Please enter through Door #2.  We look forward to seeing everyone there!

On Thursday, September 19th at 3:45PM we will have our first after-school staff meeting of the year.  We will be having some very special guests - parents from the community!  Mrs. O'Donovan set up this very special staff meeting where three parents who are from three very different place around the world will speak to the staff to share about their cultures and how we can best connect and support them!

This year we would like to encourage even more family members to come out and visit Timber Lane for many opportunities that we will be providing.  We would like every family to set a goal to attend at least one school event and volunteer one time.  We are always looking for family members to volunteer for PTA events, become a mystery reader within the classroom, helping out in Physical Education class with some exciting sports and fitness activities, and as classroom volunteers.

We welcome every Timber Lane family member.  You do not need to speak English to be able to volunteer.  We can use your help to reach many of our students who speak a different language and we value your ability to help us connect to all of our learners!  We welcome you to connect with your child's teacher or the main office to learn about the many ways you can be a part of our school community!  Our incredible main office staff is able to communicate with all of the following languages: English, Spanish, Russian, Azerbaijani and French.

Lunch is served daily for our students and we welcome family members to come visit during students' lunch blocks as well!  Family members can purchase a lunch for $4.50, which includes a trip to our salad bar!  Now where can you get a complete and nutritious meal for $4.50!  Don't pass this deal up!

The following are times for each grade level's daily lunch time:

1st Grade: 11:00-11:30

2nd Grade: 11:15-11:45

Kindergarten: 11:45-12:15
