Your Health Matters

Each Wednesday, we will have a tip in a new segment   “Your Health Matters” in our morning announcements.   You have the information that the students heard below.

Today we would like to talk to you about Healthy Eating.

Did you know that 70-80% of your health involves healthy eating and eating the right food at the right time?  What do you eat every day?  Have you ever kept a checklist?  Do you feel rundown or constantly hungry?

Your plate should include  proteins and carbohydrates for energy, strength, brain power and to help you feel full.  This plate is a good visual as to what your plate should look like.

We often eat more carbohydrates than protein.  Why is this?  They are sometimes cheaper and easier to access.  … and we often get addicted to them!!!

Protein is what helps with our thinking, muscle growth and in keeping us full.  When you eat more carbohydrates, you will want to eat again more quickly because you do not feel full!   Have you ever noticed when you eat a sugary cereal or a candy bar that you want something else to eat?  It typically is more sugar.  We challenge you to try to eat a healthy breakfast every morning for a week!

Try these breakfast ideas for a healthier more balanced breakfast.  1) Oatmeal with berries,  2) greek yogurt with fruit  3)eggs, tomatoes and a piece of whole grain toast    4) whole grain English muffin and peanut butter  5) berry and yogurt smoothie   6) oatmeal with an egg

The chooseMyPlate.org site is a great resource for you to find our own healthy combination!

Good luck and Happy and Healthy Eating!!
