Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

It was great to see so many of you at Back to School Night last week!

Tomorrow night Stenwood will be recognized at the School Board meeting for receiving the Continuous Achievement Award. This award is given to schools by the Virginia Department of Education for schools that continue to show significant improvement in academic and school quality indicators over the last three years.  Thank you to our amazing staff for achieving this award and having Stenwood be recognized.

Many of you took advantage of our Advanced Academic Information session last week.  If you missed it, Mrs. Herendeen will be offering a repeat session on September 25th at 8:45am.  See below for other important dates for our Advanced Academic Programs.

This week we also kicked off the Positivity Project.  We started this program last year and many of the students were excited to start again on Monday.  The overarching goal of the program is to help students build positive relationships and become their best selves with the understanding that other people matter.  There are 24 different strengths that students will learn about during the year.  We will highlight the strength of the week in the Hive Happenings.  We encourage you to talk about each strength at home and how you develop that strength in yourself.  #otherpeoplematter

We hope to see many of you next week at the Ice Cream Social!

Sincerely,

Erica Riley, Principal

Meredith Mitchell, Assistant Principal

The Freedom Flag was raised today and will be flying for the next week. We take today to honor all that were lost and all that were directly affected by the tragic events of September 11th.

Positivity Project: Other People Matter Mindset

P2

This week we are focusing on the heart of the Positivity Project, Other People Mindset. This idea is built on five important principles:
• We can identify and appreciate the good in others.
• We support others when they struggle.
• We are present and give others our attention.
• We cheer on others’ successes.
• We know that our words and actions affect others.

“We rise by lifting others.” ~ Robert Ingersoll

Questions you might enjoy talking about.
• Why is this important?
• How do I live with this mindset?
• How do other people live with this mindset?
