RAISE Time Begins

On Wednesday, September 4, students had the opportunity to attend their first RAISE session. As a reminder, RAISE means: Ram Academic Intervention Support for Everyone which is a 45 minute period immediately following Learning Seminar on Gold Days. Students may request time with a particular teacher to receive academic support or teachers may initiate attendance for specific students during this remedial period. Students must make arrangements in advance by requesting a pass from the teacher they wish to visit. They must show the pass to their LS teacher and carry it as a hall pass when they travel between classes.

SOCIAL WORK SPOTLIGHT

by Kristen Licciardo, MSW, School Social Worker

Are you concerned your child might be depressed?   Made statements about being hopeless or wanting to die?  Engaging in self-injury?    Robinson partners with Mindwise SOS Signs of Suicide Youth Prevention Program to provide a free portal for parents with a free screening tool.    The website also has information about signs and symptoms of depression, how to help your child, and multiple resources.

https://sossignsofsuicide.org/parent

Who is your school social worker?   This is my ninth year working as a school social worker.   This is my fifth year at Robinson!    I have been working as a social worker with children and families for 24 years.   I attended California State University, Northridge and received my Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development.   I completed my Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Southern California.   I spent the early part of my career working with children and families in mental health settings, including residential treatment centers, day treatment programs, non-public schools, and outpatient therapy programs.   In California, I also worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker doing private practice.   I relocated to Northern Virginia in 2009 and have enjoyed living on the east coast with my husband and two children, one in elementary school and one starting middle school this year!

What does your school social worker do?    I provide support to children and families in the areas of mental health, accessing community resources, basic needs, and special education.    I partner with our school teams and counselors to ensure all students are achieving their full academic, social and emotional potential.

What is Social Work Spotlight?   I will be highlighting anything and all social work related information…an inspirational story I have come across, a book I am reading, resources in the community, special events, etc… sometimes, just a great quote for the week!
