Dear Eagle Families,

We are looking forward to welcoming parents and guardians of Eagles to our Back to School Night in September. Because we have so many families to accommodate, we will split the school by teams to come to two different nights: Thursday, September 12th (Hokies, Spartans, Highlanders and Panther) and the 19th (Captains, Patriots, Cavaliers, and Nighthawks), both nights from 6-7:30PM.  More information went out on Thursday, September 5th in targeted emails that invited you to attend the night your core team of teachers will be present. Elective, PE and math teachers who teach multiple grade levels may not specifically present on your night, but will have representatives from their area to present. In addition, Health & PE Staff Members will be available to review the Family Life Education (FLE) curriculum at both BTSNs.  You are always invited to make appointments with teachers to discuss specific concerns. Come and meet teachers and counselors, and learn more about the upcoming school year.

Finally, please consider having your entire family participate. We have a chance to earn money for our LMS Makerspace while you get fit--with your family! On Sunday, Sept. 15,  here in Fairfax City, there will be a 5K (you can walk!) to raise money for local funds for STEM initiatives. If you use the code lanier-aj5k  to register, you will pay only $15 and ALL of that goes back to school!!!  Also, we get additional people to sign up and designate LMS, we will get: an additional $500 for 25+ registrations; an additional $1000 for 50+ registrations; and an additional $2000 for 100+ registrations. This is the same foundation that helped Chantilly HS last year with their Makerspace. They plan to invest $2 million in additional schools this year. Let’s fill that race with SOAR pride!

See you at Back to School Night and at the Asha-Jyothi 5K on September 15 right here in Fairfax Corner!

Sincerely,

Tammy Hanna

Bus Route Information

FCPS Transportation Services has sent detailed bus route information to parents by phone and email.  If your child rides the bus, be sure to check your email or voice mail for a message.  Bus route information for your child is also available now by logging into your FCPS 24-7 Learning: Parent View (Blackboard) account.  To see it, click your child's name in the module titled "Bus Stop Information (Parent)."

Bus Delay Notification System

Stay up-to-date on school bus arrivals with FCPS bus delay notification system.  This system provides parents with timely notification of late bus route information.  Access it directly online.  Morning bus route information will be available until noon.  The afternoon bus route information will be available from 1 to 7PM.

E-Notify email messages will also be sent to announce bus delays.

NEW for 2019: FCPS Now Using the Here Comes the Bus Mobile App

To help you know when your child's bus is approaching your stop, FCPS is now using the Here Comes the Bus mobile app, starting on August 26.  Here Comes the Bus is a free school bus tracking app that can simplify morning and afternoon routines for parents and students by giving real-time bus location and text or email notification alerts, helping everybody get to the bus stop on time.

Here Comes the Bus uses FCPS global positioning system (GPS) data and an easy-to-use customizable map that works on one or multiple devices, such as a tablet, smartphone, or desktop computer.

Parents can download the app now for free from the App Store or Google Play.  You will need the FCPS school district code 28982 and a Student Information System (SIS) Parent Account (contact your child's school if you do not have an SIS Parent Account).  Once signed in, you can customize or edit features, including how the app will communicate with you, and the size and location of the notification radius around your child's bus stop.
