Kilmer MS Week 1 - NJHS - 8th graders #3

j

Coding class is a lot of fun!

From the Principal's Desk:

Greetings Cougar Community:

We have completed our second week of school in an exemplary manner.  The students all seem to have mastered the lockers (for the most part) and have adjusted to their new class schedules.  Their behavior has been excellent in the halls and the cafeteria, which we want to continue.  I have seen a high level of student engagement in the classrooms.  The teachers have worked on high interest, student centered lessons and the results are obvious.  The students will be getting their Student Rights and Responsibilities presentation from the assistant principals next week.

In the near future, we will be having student town halls to give the students the opportunity to voice their opinions and ask questions.  We will also have lunch with the principal to further engage with the students.

Have a good weekend!

Required Safety Drills

Recognizing and responding to a crisis takes practice.  The more a plan is practiced, reviewed and improved, the better that plan will be implemented. Over the past two weeks we have conducted two successful and efficient fire drills. Our students did an excellent job exiting the building calmly and followed teacher instructions.

To ensure students and staff receive regular practice of security procedures, the following schedule of drills is maintained by FCPS:

  • Fire drills: Once a week for first twenty (20) school days and monthly thereafter
  • Tornado drills: in March of each academic year
  • Bus evacuation drills: in September and February of each academic year
  • Lockdown drills: Two within the first twenty (20) school days plus two additional drills, one of which must occur in January

We wanted to make sure parent/guardians are aware of these drills for the year in case students want to talk about their experience at home.
