Dear Members of the CHS Community:

I hope you had a good week. I have some positive news to share about what’s happening at Chantilly:

  • I’m pleased to share that CHS was selected to host a Tech Pathways kick-off event on Tuesday, September 10th during the school day. Sponsored by all k-12 school districts in Northern Virginia and Northern Virginia Community College, the initiative is aimed at promoting more student pathways to careers in technology. Governor Northam will be in attendance along with numerous leaders in government, education, and the private sector.  Attendees will be touring our Innovation Lab, as well as a few classes that embody what the Governor and supporters of the initiative want to emulate in schools across Virginia. While we are proud to showcase Chantilly’s model programs, we are having to make some modifications on Tuesday to accommodate so many guests—especially in regards to parking. Approximately 60 students and staff are being asked to not park in their designated spots, and they were notified yesterday via the announcements and a flyer that was placed on their car. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation to make this memorable event possible. Please note that due to capacity limitations, this event is only open to invited students, staff, and special guests from around the state.
  • I will be taking part and answering questions in a PTSA-sponsored dialogue with parents on Tuesday, September 10th from 6-7:30pm in the Lecture Hall.
  • I encourage everyone to sign up for the Asha-Jyothi 5K planned for Sunday, September 15th (see details below). All proceeds raised by Chantilly HS will benefit a shelter for homeless children in India.

Thanks. It's great to have the school year up and running!

Support ASHA-JYOTHI 5K Run

Last year, Chantilly received a donation from the non-profit, Asha-Jyothi, to fund the Chantilly Innovation Lab, which opened in February, 2019.  Asha-Jyothi sponsors an annual 5K Run/Walk in locations throughout the United States.  The local event will take place on September 15th at Fairfax Corner at 8am.

Participants need to enter the school-specific code included at the bottom of the flyer (chs-aj5k) so Chantilly gets credit for their participation. We plan to donate all money raised to help build an orphanage for homeless children. Please see the link for details: https://www.asha-jyothi.org/cause/orphanage-for-a-good-cause/ . We supported this effort last year, and our efforts were greatly appreciated

Sporting Goods Eagle Project at CHS

My name is Liam Reardon. I am approaching the rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 158 and for my project I wanted to do something that would involve the whole community. My project is a collection of used sports equipment which I will donate to my beneficiary, Leveling the Playing Field - a non profit organization that collects and distributes used sports equipment to underprivileged communities. Leveling the Playing Field accepts mostly all types of equipment except for bicycle equipment, clothing and uniforms, hats, and sneakers (however cleats are accepted). I will have a collection box placed in the gym lobby of the school from 9/9-9/30. I would greatly appreciate your help with my project. More information can be found at http://www.levelingtheplayingfield.org/. For further questions please email me at Lmreardon00@gmail.com. Thank you in advance for your support.
