Justice Newsletter - September 2, 2019

“Creativity is intelligence having fun.” ~ Albert Einstein

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Justice Families,

We had a great start to our school year. Students and teachers spent time the first week getting to know one another and learn classroom procedures and routines. With close to 2200 students, arrival and dismissal were extremely busy, but seem to pick up speed every day. Thank you for your patience in Kiss and Ride. Please do not drop off students in the middle of the street but rather at the drop off point. We are working hard at making Kiss and Ride safe and efficient for all students.

Back to School Night is scheduled for September 19. Families are invited to join us beginning at 5:30 pm in the aux gym to explore clubs, activities and PTSA membership. We will also have information regarding Family Life Education (FLE) curriculum in the library at 6:00 PM. Beginning at 6:30, parents will follow their student’s schedule. During this time, your student’s teachers will explain their goals for the class and for your student. They’ll share information about their teaching style and methodology, how they grade and the requirements for a good grade. More detail information regarding scheduled start and end times will be released in next week’s newsletter.

This week during our Den Time, students will be reviewing SR& R. The Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) document explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable and supportive school environment. We ask that you use this document as a framework for discussing these expectations with your student so that he or she is well prepared for success during the school year. You will also find that this publication includes information that you may need throughout the school year, including contact numbers and other resources. Please sign the Parent Signature Sheet to acknowledge that you have received this document, as required by law, and return the signed signature sheet to school. The signature sheet is due back to your student's third period teacher by no later that Friday, September 6th.

As always, if you have any questions, concerns, compliments, or observations, please let me know. You can also contact your student's   teacher(s), counselor, or administrator.

SIS Grade Books

SIS Grade Books will be open for StudentVue and ParentVue access on Monday, September 9, 2019 at 6:00 am. The SIS Parent Account provides up to date parent and guardian access to their child’s student information, including attendance, report cards, class schedules, gradebook, course history, discipline, health, and school information, establishing another form of communication between home and school. Parents use the same username and password as the login for both SIS and FCPS 24-7 Learning. To create an account that will allow access to both, parents should contact Amanda Armitage at amarmitage@fcps.edu for an activation key. Parents with SIS Parents Accounts will automatically receive regular email progress reports with course grades to date beginning on Monday, September 9, 2019. Parents may log into their account to set their delivery preferences.

Free & Reduced Priced Meals

The Free and Reduced Meals application is now online for faster processing. Families must reapply every year to receive free or reduced meals. If families do not reapply their number will be inactivated in early October. Please also complete the consent to share information as this can allow the school to waive course fees and receive reduced fees for other activities. More information and a link to the application can be found at:  https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/food-and-nutrition-programs/free-and-reduced-price-meals
