LBSS Weeky News - 9/6/19

JROTC

This week our LBSS JROTC presented at a Nationals game, Senior parents met with their counselors regarding graduation requirements and we welcomed our 7th and 8th grade parents for Back to School night. The first Parent Workshop on Growth Mindset was held prior to the start of Back to School night and was attended by over 600 parents.  Thank you to the Middle School Student Services for hosting that presentation.

Next week our middle school students will take their pictures through Health and PE on Thursday and Friday.  Also, our first Principal's Coffee will be next Tuesday at 10am in the Lecture Hall, and we hope to see you in attendance.

PTSA Principal's Coffee
Tuesday, September 10 at 10 a.m. in the Lecture Hall
Come out and meet Dr. Smith and your fellow Bruin parents.

Lost and Found Items
Please urge your child to stop by the Lost and Found in the cafeteria during lunches next week to retrieve their items. On Monday, September 16th, we will be donating all leftover items to the Red Cross. We will also be making announcements during all lunches to remind students.

Checking Your Child Out Early
Please take a moment to review our school's Early Check-out Procedure and other attendance procedures and information located on the our school webpage and this link: https://lakebraddockss.fcps.edu/about/attendance

If you know ahead of time that you need to pick up your child before dismissal, please send them in with a note that must be turned into their subschool before the start of the first period of the day. Notes are strongly preferred for early check-out, but if you were unable to send one in with your child, the parent should call the subschool office as early as possible. Help us help you! Advance notice allows us to better prepare for and check your child out to you in time for you to make that appointment you have scheduled for them.

Applications for TJHSST are Available Now!
If you’re interested in applying to Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, commonly referred to as “TJ,” we would like to provide you with some important information. You must be in 8th grade and enrolled in Algebra 1 or higher to apply.

We hosted a TJ Admissions specialist, Mrs. Sperling, on September 3rd, who presented about the school and application process. If you missed the presentation or would like a copy of it, you can view a PDF of the presentation here: https://lakebraddockss.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/inline-files/TJHSST%20Fall%202019%20Presentation.pdf

If you have decided to apply, the online application is now open and you can begin the application process here: https://www.fcps.edu/registration/thomas-jefferson-high-school-science-and-technology-admissions/freshman-winter

There are several important dates to keep in mind, so scroll down on the link that is provided and mark your calendars. There is one additional date for Lake Braddock students: Please START the application by September 20th, 2019. That’s because there are two parts and you cannot finish the second part until you’ve submitted the first part and Mr. Brodie has verified the student’s math class. This gives us one week to ensure everything is taken care of before the final application deadline.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Mr. Brodie, Middle School Counselor. You can send me him an email at ibrodie@fcps.edu or call 703-426-1049.
