SLHS News and Updates

Dear Seahawk Families:

We have made it through a full blue and green day and the kids new to us are finding their way around. We continue to register new students with two from the west coast and two from abroad just today! Just a reminder that Friday and Monday are student holidays. Only select 12-month staff work on Friday and our office will close at 12:30PM. All staff are off on Labor Day. Tuesday will be a Blue day.

Thank you for all the support from the community for both students and staff around the loss of our teacher, Mr. Chang. At this time, the family has chosen not to have a public service. As a way for our school community to share our admiration for what Mr. Chang brought to our school, we are going to put together two remembrance books. One will be specifically for his young son and the other for his mother. I envision photographs, artwork, poems and/or letters. Students, staff and parents are invited to submit items for the books. We are purchasing some nice note cards we will make available on Tuesday but certainly submissions do not need to be on these cards. There will be collection boxes in the main office through next Wednesday.

Senior Parents College Prep Night

Parents / guardians of seniors who plan to apply to college for next year are strongly encouraged to attend this presentation that will explain the college application process and provide insight into college admissions. The meeting will be held on Sept. 5th from 6:30-8:30pm. Two- and four-year college options will be discussed as well as what the application process entails at South Lakes High School.

Back to School Night 9/11/19 – Shuttle Opportunity

SLHS is providing shuttle service from several feeder elementary schools since parking is often a challenge (and it often rains!).  Please consider riding one of the four shuttle buses being offered with stops at five schools. See below for schedule.   PLEASE sign-up so that we can plan appropriately. If we have less than five (5) people signed up for a bus two days before the event (morning of 9/9/19) we will cancel the bus.

Partner’s for Safe Teen Driving Parent Night

The first Partner’s for Safe Teen Driving of the year is taking place on Wednesday, September 4th at 7pm in the theater. The presentation is part of the classroom requirement for driver’s education and is open to any 10th grader currently enrolled in 10th grade health and PE and 11th and 12th grade students who have completed PE. Students who attend must come with a parent and sit with them during the 90-minute presentation. 11th and 12th graders who have not met the PSTD requirement and still need to complete that portion of the class need to pre-register and may stop by room 147 to find out how to do so.

Please bring a pen and plan on arriving around 630-645 to find a seat as the program starts promptly at 7pm. If you are late you will need to attend a different session. If unable to make the 4th, see Mr. Brown for other dates, or send an email to srbrown@fcps.edu
