Chantilly HS students - the first week of school

From the Principal's Desk

Dear Members of the Chantilly HS Community:

I hope you had a good first week of school. While we experienced the typical challenges that come at the start of each school year, I believe that we had a great first week. I made it around to 20+ classrooms on the first day, and I really enjoyed observing teachers as they engage students in course content, built relationships, and in some cases, explained their why for becoming a teacher. This is the 2nd edition of From the Principal’s Desk where I try to consolidate all important information into one weekly email. Below is the latest important news from Chantilly HS. In the coming weeks, you will also see one of the most important parts of my newsletter, the Recent Student Successes Program.  It is a weekly initiative to recognize identified students for demonstrating growth in terms of academics, behavior, or citizenship.

Have a great holiday weekend,

Scott Poole

Principal

Support ASHA-JYOTHI 5K Run

Last year, Chantilly received a donation from the non-profit, Asha-Jyothi, to fund the Chantilly Innovation Lab, which opened in February, 2019.  Asha-Jyothi sponsors an annual 5K Run/Walk in locations throughout the United States.  The local event will take place on September 15th at Fairfax Corner at 8am.

Participants need to enter the school-specific code included at the bottom of the flyer (chs-aj5k) so Chantilly gets credit for their participation. We plan to donate all money raised to help build an orphanage for homeless children. Please see the link for details: https://www.asha-jyothi.org/cause/orphanage-for-a-good-cause/ . We supported this effort last year, and our efforts were greatly appreciated

Every Day Counts! Absences Add Up

Parents/Guardians, as we begin another school year, here are some important school attendance reminders:

  • Learn the ways to alert your child’s school when your child will be absent.
  • We do monitor your child’s attendance daily, and will reach you if your child does not arrive at school or class as expected.
  • Please continue to contact the school via the attendance line or email if your child will be absent. The school attendance contact information can be found on the Chantilly HS website, under Attendance.
  • We strive to maximize instructional time with the expectation that students are in class and ready to learn by 8:10 each morning.  The Tardy Table will open on September 3rd at Chantilly HS.  Late students will check in and receive a red pass before heading to their 1st or 2nd period class.
  • The calendar for the 2019-20 school year has been posted. Make plans to have your child back at school, ready to learn, starting on August 26!
  • More information about FCPS attendance expectations is located here.
