Here We Go!!!

Family,

I would like to open my first correspondence of the year with an original piece entitled, "Hurry Home".

The building’s been cleaned,

Lessons have been planned,

Schedules have been made,

And the doors secured and manned.

The pencils are sharpened,

And technology’s new,

Presentations prepared for students to view.

But it doesn’t mean anything,

It’s like Coke without fizz,

Our home is so empty,

Without all the kids!

I can’t express in words how excited the faculty and staff are about the return of your students and the beginning of the new school year.  We had an outstanding time with the students Thursday.  We greeted new families to the area, new ninth graders, and our returning upper classmen.  And as much as they shared that summer was too short, they all displayed the same excitement as we did when we encountered one another.  It was also great to see the parents and the community volunteers in the building.  The spirit of the day was outstanding, and it was a great way to kick off the year.  Thank you to everyone who attended, and to those who could not attend, I know you were with us in spirit.

As we head into the next week, I want to share a few tidbits with you.  The first day of school has been known to be a little chaotic due to all the excitement.  Even with all of the planning and preparing that we have been doing for the first day, somethings are still bound to go wrong.  But we have been through this process for many years, and so we will have plans to fix whatever goes awry.  If however, your child is still experiencing issues, please encourage them to communicate with his or her teachers, counselor, or administrator in an effort to advocate for themselves.  We want to resolve all issues as soon as possible, and get students into classes so the learning can take place.  This happens much faster when we are able to hear from the students who have first hand knowledge about their concerns.

Another piece of information I would like to share with you is that we are continuing to focus on relationships again this year.  We are going to engage students on many different levels and will be working to ensure that every student has a trusted adult in the building.  We will be in the hallways getting to know every student, and each staff member will own every student.  We hope that you will encourage your child to engage with our staff as well so that we can build those relationships that will ultimately result in more relevant learning opportunities for all students.

Just as I am sharing my welcome back message, our Superintendent Dr. Scott Brabrand, has one for you as well.  His message can be found on these links.

As I stated, we are very excited about the school year and are looking forward to working with each of you throughout the year.  I look forward to seeing you at some of the events and activities at school and around the county supporting our students.  I also hope to see you as a member of the PTSO.  Enjoy this weekend with your children, and know that we will be taking care of them come Monday morning.  I thank you in advance for your continued support, and thank you for the opportunity to be trusted with your most valuable assets.  #OneStallion
