Welcome Back!

Welcome Back, Students and Families!

We are excited to see you!

We are busy putting last touches on class placements, and will email and text teacher assignments to parents tomorrow afternoon (August 21st).

We hope you and your children will join us Thursday, August 22nd between 1:00-2:30pm to meet teachers and classmates at our Open House.

When School Begins...

Starting August 26th, on the first day of school, students may arrive on campus at 8:30am.

On the first day, students and parents may proceed directly to the classrooms.  Our school day will start promptly at 8:40am, and at this time any parents remaining will need to say their goodbyes so the school day may start.

Beginning Tuesday, August 27th, parents should say goodbye at the entrance to let students walk to class on their own.  Our regular procedures begin.

8:30 - Doors Open

8:40 - The school day starts - students should be in seats

3:25 - Dismissal.

All parents and visitors must check in at the office.  Visits to teachers and staff need to be pre-arranged and then confirmed by office staff upon arrival.

Back to School Night

Parents are invited to join us for Back to School Night on Wednesday, August 28 at 6:00pm.

Teachers brainstorm ways to teach higher order thinking skills using strategy games purchased for students by the CPES PTA.

Walkers and Bikers

Walking and biking are highly encouraged as a safe and healthy way to get to school.  Students arriving from the Southwest side of the school (McHenry, Kingsley, Cedar) will arrive at door 3, next to the library.  Students who walk to us from the Northeast side (Tapawingo, Adihi) will arrive at door 11.  Students eating breakfast will use door 1.

At dismissal, those students who are going to the Southwest Side (McHenry, Kingsley, Cedar) will dismiss through Door 3.  Parents wait for their children on the grassy area by Door 3.

Those students who are going to the Northeast Side (Tapawingo, Adihi) will dismiss through Door 11.  Parents wait for their children by the bike racks.

Kiss & Ride

Students who are being picked up by car or after school day-care, will go to the cafeteria and wait for their ride to reach the front of the Kiss & Ride line.  Parents should not park there vehicles and enter the school to wait for their child.

Bus Delay Notification

Stay up-to-date on school bus arrivals with FCPS' bus delay notification system.  This system provides parents with timely notification of late bus route information.  Parents may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the FCPS Mobile App to receive the delayed bus report. Morning route information will be available until noon. Afternoon bus route information will be available from 1 to 7 p.m.

E-Notify (BlackboardConnect) email messages will also be sent to announce bus delays.

Need assistance or have questions?  Contact the Transportation office listed for your school (703-249-7100). For any concerns after hours (after 5:30 p.m.), contact Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.

Visit the FCPS Transportation Office for more information.

Kindergarteners and siblings explore the playground at our last summer kindergarten playdate earlier this month.

Kindergarten Bus Riders

Kindergarten students who ride the bus in the afternoon are to be met at the bus door and asked for by name by a parent, parent designee, guardian, or a responsible middle school age or higher sibling. Children will be returned to school if the driver has concerns for their safety.

In case of emergencies such as road closures, accidents, or weather related road problems, drivers may use safe transportation-approved alternate locations to pick up or drop off students. If there is not a safe transportation-approved alternative stop, the driver may choose to return to school.

Drivers may also choose to return to the school if they have concerns regarding the safety of releasing a student at a regular stop, or if a child expresses concern for any reason about getting off of the bus.
