From the Principal's Desk....

Mascot

Dear Fairfax Family,

This week marked the return of our teachers on Friday, but the work of an educator never ends as I have seen many of them all summer long.  I am sure our full week next week will go quickly as we prepare for students and our perfect vision for 2020!  The capstone is welcoming our rising freshmen next Friday—it is always an exciting event, mainly coordinated by our student leadership.

Speaking of events, we welcomed about 150 rising 9th graders in our very first, Pride Assemble.  Many of the pictures this week are of our students getting to know their new “home,” some of their teachers, and many upperclassmen.  It was a fun reunion for me with many of the Class of 2023!  An extra special thank you to Mr. Jeff Weaver and Mrs. Thresa O’Neill who organized the entire event.  The teacher leaders in our building are truly extraordinary, and this event was a great example of their dedication to our school and community.

I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge that the majority of the funding for the Pride Assemble came from the City of Fairfax.   Not only did they invest in this camp, but the City has also allocated funds to several teacher-leadership projects over the summer, the establishment of a peer tutoring center this school year, and many other projects--- We are very, very fortunate to be a City of Fairfax school.

The FCPSOn pickup has been a slow roll, and has us a little nervous that students have forgetten to pick up their laptops.  I also wonder if they are holding out because school hasn’t started yet...I suppose we shall see on the makeup days next week!  It has been a tremendous undertaking with staff, student, and parent volunteers.  We will assess how pickup looked this year, and work to improve our processes in the future—but so far, so good!

Wishing you a safe and cool weekend,

Erin B. Lenart, Ed.D.

Emergency Care and Health Information:

We are committed to ensuring that Fairfax HS is safe and secure. In support of this goal, FCPS provides weCare@school, an emergency care information system, available to FCPS parents and guardians who have registered for their own Parent account. weCare@school helps manage emergency medical information by enabling parents to enter and update their children’s medical data at their convenience online.

All parents should take the time to verify and make any changes that are needed.  For information and step by step instructions on how to access weCare@school, visit https://www.fcps.edu/resources/parent-communication-overview/wecareschool
